About Fable Security

AI-driven threats and human error are today’s biggest enterprise security risks. Cybercriminals don’t hack systems—they exploit people. Human errors drive 70% of security breaches, making human behavior the primary and growing attack surface. At Fable, we believe that the right tools can convert people from targets to another layer of defense.

Fable is the human risk platform that directly shapes employee behavior. Designed for simplicity and enterprise scale, our agentic platform synthesizes complex employee data, pinpoints risky behaviors, and deploys highly relevant interventions to people automatically, in real time, right where they work.

Backed by Redpoint Ventures and Greylock Partners and founded by early Abnormal Security team members, Fable is solving cybersecurity’s biggest challenge in a multi-billion-dollar market. Our team includes alumni from Meta, Twitter, Flexport, and top-tier universities like Waterloo, Columbia, Berkeley, Purdue, CMU, Stanford, UCLA, and USC. We are experiencing explosive growth, making this a career-defining opportunity to join and shape the future of security.

Why Join Us
  • Build and scale the foundational data infrastructure powering a category-defining product

  • Work closely with engineering, data science, and product teams to operationalize data at scale

  • Join a small, high-caliber team where you’ll have outsized ownership and impact

At an early-stage company, every engineer directly shapes how the product works and evolves. You’ll help define not just the system—but the way the company thinks about data.

Your Role

As a Platform / Infrastructure Engineer, you will build and scale the core systems that power Fable’s product and data workflows.

You’ll work across backend systems from real-time services to data pipeline. You’ll ensure reliability, scalability, and performance across the stack. You’ll collaborate closely with data and ML teams and contribute to the systems that ingest, process, and serve data.

This is a highly cross-functional role where you’ll partner with engineering, data, and product teams to build robust, production-grade systems that scale with the company.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate scalable backend and infrastructure systems

  • Develop and maintain services that support real-time and batch data processing

  • Contribute to core platform components (compute, storage, orchestration, and tooling)

  • Improve system reliability, observability, and performance across services and workflows

  • Collaborate with data and ML teams to support data ingestion, processing, and production use cases

  • Optimize systems for scalability, cost, and efficiency in cloud environments

  • Build internal tools and abstractions that improve developer velocity and system consistency

  • Contribute to secure and compliant infrastructure design

Your Skillset: Must-Have
  • 3–7+ years of experience in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering

  • Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale

  • Familiarity with real-time or batch data processing systems (e.g., Kafka, Spark, or similar technologies)

  • Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability principles

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and distributed storage systems

  • Ability to work across the stack and collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving startup environment with high ownership

Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with data infrastructure or data platforms

  • Familiarity with stream processing or messaging systems

  • Exposure to ML infrastructure or data-driven product features

  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, etc.)

  • Background in security or high-sensitivity data environments

How We Work
  • We value impact over process—you’ll ship quickly and iterate

  • Engineers have high ownership and autonomy

  • We operate with tight feedback loops across product and engineering

  • We prioritize technical rigor, simplicity, and long-term scalability

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary + equity

  • Health, dental, vision coverage

  • Flexible PTO

  • Opportunity to join at an early stage and shape the company’s foundation

Why This Role Matters

Data is core to the product. You’ll be responsible for building the systems that enable:

  • Reliable, production-grade data for customers and internal teams

  • Real-time decision-making

  • Scalable analytics and experimentation

Your work will directly impact how the company builds, ships, and scales.

The estimated salary range for this position is estimated to be $160K - $225K / year. Total compensation for this position may also include Restricted Stock units, sign-on bonus and other potential future incentives. Further note that total compensation for this position will be determined by each individual’s relevant qualifications, work experience, skills, and other factors.

Fable Security is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
