As a Software Engineer at Roadrunner, you'll own product development end-to-end, ship AI agents for quoting and deal modeling, and build enterprise-scale workflow systems, ensuring reliable and efficient performance while collaborating closely with end-users.

About us

At Roadrunner, we’re replacing the broken CPQ software that Sales teams have complained about, worked around, and given up on for years. Not improving it - replacing it. We’re building a new agentic stack called PQA - Prompt, Quote, Approve, designed for the enterprise, on a data model built for how pricing actually works today.

We’re Kleiner Perkins’ first incubation since Glean, led by second-time founders with successful exits, and a team of engineers from Snowflake, Databricks, Citadel, Meta, Robinhood, Brex, and so on. We’re in-person in San Francisco, and we’re just getting started.

What you’ll do
  • Own the product end-to-end. You’ll build across Roadrunner’s core systems — fast, reliable, and genuinely delightful for the AEs who depend on them. These aren’t prototypes. They run in production.

  • Ship AI agents that change how deals get done. You’ll design and deploy proactive agents that handle quoting, deal modeling, and complex multi-step workflows.

  • Build for enterprise scale. Workflow engines powering approval flows for multibillion-dollar transactions at millisecond-level response times. The bar is high on purpose.

  • Work directly with the people using what you build. Close feedback loops. Understand real pain. Ship again.

Example projects
  • Sprinting two weeks to take a new feature from zero to shipped, iterating directly with AEs in the field.

  • Building AI agents that proactively surface quoting recommendations and model complex deal structures before the AE even asks.

  • Designing workflow engines that power approval flows for multibillion-dollar transactions with sub-millisecond response times.

What you’ll bring
  • A track record of building and shipping great products end-to-end.

  • Strong engineering fundamentals - you know the tradeoffs between speed and quality, and when each one matters.

  • High autonomy and a builder’s mindset - you figure out what needs to be done and do it.

  • Clear, direct communication across technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Based in SF or excited to relocate - we’re an in-person team.

Bonus points if…
  • Experience building or deploying AI/LLM systems in production.

  • Familiarity with agent tooling, eval frameworks, or RAG pipelines.

  • You’ve been a founder or early engineer and know what full ownership actually feels like.

  • Prior experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders on technical projects.

What we offer
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family.

  • Lunch and dinner, as well as snacks and coffee to keep you energized.

  • Take what you need vacation policy.

Equal opportunity

We value our differences, and we encourage all to apply — especially those whose identities are traditionally underrepresented in tech organizations. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, political belief, or any other characteristic protected by law. Roadrunner is an equal opportunity employer.

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
