Role Description
Salesforce is seeking an exceptional Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) to serve as a lead and contributor for our next-generation Cybersecurity Data Platform. In this high-impact individual contributor (IC) role, you will be responsible for the technical design and hands-on implementation of a scalable, high-quality platform that powers critical security data flows. You will act as a technical pillar, building core capabilities including data ingestion, processing, storage, APIs, and analytics integration, ensuring the system is both robust and developer-friendly.
You will drive the platform's technical evolution, solving complex distributed systems challenges and working cross-functionally with data producers and consumers to ensure seamless integration. While this is an IC role, your influence will be broad; you will provide technical guidance to peers, set engineering standards, and help envision the transition of this platform into a multi-tenant SaaS product. Your work will empower internal stakeholders and ensure Salesforce scales its business impact securely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Architect and implement the technical roadmap for the Security Data Platform, ensuring it meets long-term scalability and security requirements.
- Drive the technical design for evolving the platform into a multi-tenant SaaS product capable of serving global customers.
- Platform Engineering & Implementation
- Lead the hands-on development of scalable, secure, and reliable platform capabilities using Apache Spark, AWS S3, and streaming/batch pipelines.
- Design and build self-service onboarding tools for data producers and high-performance APIs for data consumers.
- Technical Collaboration
- Partner with data producers to architect high-quality data ingestion patterns, resolving complex structural inconsistencies at the source.
- Act as a technical consultant for internal stakeholders, translating business and security needs into actionable technical specifications.
- Influence technical decisions across teams to ensure architectural alignment and overcome integration bottlenecks.
- Operational Excellence & Performance
- Define and implement robust monitoring, alerting, and automated testing frameworks to guarantee data integrity and platform reliability.
- Perform deep-dive performance tuning and cost-optimization across all platform components and cloud infrastructure.
- Technical Mentorship & Quality
- Elevate the engineering bar by conducting rigorous code reviews, defining best practices, and mentoring junior/mid-level engineers.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the engineering community.
- Innovation
- Proactively identify and prototype opportunities to incorporate AI/ML for advanced risk assessment and automated remediation.
- Research emerging industry trends in cybersecurity and data engineering to keep the platform at the cutting edge.
Required Skills/Experience
- Industry Expertise: 10+ years in software development, with a deep focus on SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS environments and high-availability 24/7 systems.
- Technical Mastery: Extensive hands-on experience building large-scale data platforms using Apache Spark, AWS S3, streaming/batch pipelines, and cloud-native architectures.
- Systems Architecture: Proven expertise in distributed systems, application integrations (on-prem and SaaS), identity systems, and data governance (e.g., data mesh).
- Individual Impact: A track record of owning the end-to-end lifecycle of complex features—from initial design and coding to testing, deployment, and maintenance (DevOps mindset).
- Data-Centric Design: Experience delivering self-service data solutions and managing high-volume pipelines (integrating with 50+ data systems).
- Design Patterns: Expert knowledge of systems patterns (e.g., N-tier, MVC) and API frameworks (e.g., OpenAPI).
- Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and influence architectural decisions.
- Educational Background: M.Sc/M.Eng or B.A/B.Sc. in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Agile Proficiency: Experience working in high-velocity Scrum or Kanban environments to deliver scalable, high-quality code.
