TEAM

“Kaizen” is the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement, accomplished through cycles of reflection and action. Woven by Toyota’s Integration team is developing software tools and practices to achieve “Kaizen” in automated driving. Our goal is to provide the simulation data required to test and release new features confidently to TMC.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for a passionate engineer who is excited to contribute to autonomous driving and driver assist systems. As part of this role you will help build the signals, testing criteria and datasets needed for developing new autonomy features and for finding regressions in existing autonomous capabilities through simulation. Your goal will be to improve development velocity by writing robust code, producing the right data, and expanding our testing capabilities across expanding ODDs and countries.  Experience working closely with customers to extract requirements, delivering robust code, and working within simulation environments is preferred. You will work cross-functionally with engineering leads, technical program managers, and project managers to serve as technical point-of-contact for the simulation ecosystem and help build a vision for adding synthetic simulation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluators: Create and maintain the code used for measuring the vehicle in relation to the world.
  • Testing Criteria: Extract testing requirements from customers and set a threshold for declaring success.
  • Dataset Creation: Apply the appropriate evaluators and criteria to curated data sets from driving data.
  • Support Data-Driven Analysis: Support active learning by collaborating with internal customers to provide data for identifying critical issues, prioritizing efforts, and ensuring optimal driving performance.  Strong ability to understand customer use cases and support data drive analysis when required.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to design upcoming features, data requirements, and performance measurement approaches and estimate their impact on driving performance.
  • Performance Monitoring and Quality Assurance: Regularly check that the data provided is reflective of the vehicle behavior and the goal of the Testing Criteria as the datasets evolve over time.  Quickly triage bugs and develop testing strategies to maintain high-quality data as the system scales.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of workflows, technical design implementations, and testing plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience working with simulation systems
  • 3+ years of experience  with requirements testing and/or software QA/QC
  • 5+ years of software development in Python, C++, and SQL
  • Strong understanding of large-scale data generation and data analysis.
  • Foundational  understanding of common software development practices
  • Track record of delivering to internal and external customers.

NICE TO HAVES

  • Strong understanding of self-driving automotive technology
  • Experience with release management using GitHub Enterprise or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in data science, statistics, root cause analysis, and failure analysis.
  • Strong grasp of automated driving technologies spanning planning, control, perception, and localization.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Github Actions, Reviewable, and test management tools
  • Japanese language proficiency
