About Flox

Flox is a Series B startup rethinking how developers build, ship, and reproduce software environments. We're backed by top US VCs and running in production at Fortune 100 companies. Under the hood we're built on Nix, one of the largest open source projects in the world, and our job is to turn that power into something every engineering team can pick up and use on day one. We ship fast, work in the open, and believe the best technical arguments are the ones you can demo.

The Role

We're hiring a Solutions Engineer to support the full-stack of sales from discovery to close. You're the person who can sit across from a staff engineer at a Fortune 5 company, open a terminal, and earn trust in the first ten minutes.

Flox has strong inbound, so you'll run multiple evaluations in parallel and need to hold quality across all of them. Execution without judgment produces noise. Narrative without a working demo produces slideware. We want both.

What you'll do
  • Technical sales from discovery to close. Partner with sales to run discovery, shape solutions, and serve as the technical counterpart in every evaluation.

  • Win deals through technical credibility. Build trust with engineers and decision-makers through deep understanding and value creation. Scope, execute, and drive proofs of concept to clear technical wins, with defined success criteria and a path to purchase.

  • Build and maintain demo environments. Stand up and adapt demos against real stacks — cloud infra, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, and Nix-based workflows — and keep a library of environments ready to meet customers where they are.

  • Tell the story and produce durable collateral. Craft the narratives, analogies, and reference architectures that make Flox click for different audiences (platform, security, leadership). Demo repos, integration guides, reference architectures, and runbooks — the artifacts that make the next deal easier than the last one.

  • Represent Flox in public. Conference talks, meetups, customer workshops, booth duty.

What we're looking for
  • 8+ years in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or a hands-on technical customer-facing role at a developer tools, infrastructure, or devex company.

  • Technical depth, terminal-native. You read and write code, debug a stack trace on a shared screen, and build prototypes to customer spec without calling in an engineer. Working proficiency in at least two of: Python, Node/TypeScript, Go, Ruby, Rust.

  • Strong communication skills. Clear, direct writing and speaking. You can explain a gnarly technical concept to a staff engineer and a VP in the same meeting, and adjust on the fly.

  • Comfort across varied demo environments. You can stand up, adapt, and troubleshoot demos against whatever stack a customer puts in front of you, and you have opinions about what makes a demo land.

  • A repertoire of stories and POCs you can point to. Specific demos you've built, evaluations you've run, and technical wins you've closed.

  • Deep fluency in the surrounding ecosystem. Containers, Kubernetes, Docker internals, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure. You can credibly place Flox alongside the tools customers already use and explain where it fits.

  • Ability to run multiple evaluations in parallel without dropping threads.

  • Strong bias to action and execution.

Nice to have
  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup (Seed–Series B).

  • Experience with virtual environments and dev containers

  • Familiarity with Nix, or a genuine curiosity to go deep on it.

  • Background in financial services, cybersecurity, supply chain security, or SBOM tooling.
