Position summary
We are looking for a Spanish Language Translator to translate web pages, blog posts, and marketing materials from English to Spanish. The ideal candidate is fluent in both languages, has a strong grasp of grammar and tone, and can ensure content reads naturally and professionally to Spanish-speaking audiences. This role is particularly suited for freelancers or contractors with flexible schedules, as it is categorized as on-call, meaning work availability will be intermittent based on demand.
Important: As part of the interview process, qualified candidates may be asked to complete a short translation sample to assess fluency and tone accuracy. This is for evaluation purposes only.
Position type: Hourly, part-time (no more than 15 hours monthly)

What you’ll do
- Review of Spanish translations for voice and accuracy
- Maintenance of a glossary of key terms
- Translate English-language web content into Spanish
- Maintain consistency in voice, tone, and branding
- Ensure translated content aligns with SEO best practices
- Proofread and self-edit for grammar, accuracy, and clarity
- Collaborate with content, SEO, and development teams to finalize pages
- Translate written materials from English to Spanish and/or Spanish to English accurately and efficiently
- Review and proofread translations for grammar, accuracy, and cultural relevance
- Maintain original meaning, tone, and intent across a variety of content types (e.g., legal, medical, educational, technical, or marketing)
- Use translation software tools (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ, Smartcat) when needed
- Meet deadlines while managing multiple translation projects
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Comparing translated English business documents with the original Spanish versions to identify and correct translation and formatting errors, ensuring accuracy and certification of document translations
- Maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all translations and interpretations
- Identifying and researching industry-specific terminology for use in business translations
- Collaborating with internal teams to understand specific translation requirements
- Manage workflow and balance different types of tasks effectively
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure translations reflect intended meaning and correspond to target audiences
- Track own work and provide input for monthly project status reports
Required skills
- 2 years of experience in translating, proofreading, and editing English>Spanish content
- Fluent in both Spanish and English (native-level proficiency preferred; (oral and written)
- Proven experience as a professional translator or in a similar role
- Strong written communication and grammar skills in both languages
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or translation tools
- Certification in translation from the American Translators Association or equivalent professional certification is required
- Excellent command of written Spanish language, including grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling
- Knowledge of U.S. Spanish language conventions and ability to localize translation for specific target audiences
Desired skills
- Familiarity with industry-specific terminology (e.g., legal, healthcare, business) is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in translation, linguistics, languages, or a related field preferred
- Experience using plain language principles for translations (or willingness to learn about plain language)
