The Opportunity
Do you live at the intersection of culture, technology, and entertainment? Do you instinctively connect what’s happening across the cultural zeitgeist to innovations that shape how people discover, engage with, and enjoy stories? Are you energized by translating complex product innovations into narratives that resonate — from superfans to industry watchers to the casually curious? If so, we’d love for you to join the Product & Technology Communications team.
This role is central to how we demonstrate the value of our product experience in entertaining the world, highlighting meaningful ways members connect with our entertainment.
The Role
The Product & Technology Communications Specialist will be a key contributor on the team responsible for promoting and protecting Netflix’s reputation for how we innovate on behalf of members. This role will drive strategic and narrative storytelling across several product areas — including personalized curation and merchandising, new content experiences (e.g., Live) and core product launches across TV and Web.
You will partner closely with the product and technology team, entertainment communications, marketing and consumer insights teams to tell stories that connect product innovation to cultural conversations and member value. The role is based in our Los Angeles or Los Gatos office.
Responsibilities: Tasks are strategic, timely, and varied. They include but are not limited to:
Translate complex product concepts into clear, compelling stories that reinforce Netflix as the destination for entertainment.
Act as an expert dot-connector across product innovation, culture, audience insights, and company-wide storytelling, mining for proactive stories that ladder up to the overarching product and technology communications strategy.
Build thoughtful and strategic proactive and reactive communications plans for the product areas within your scope, including ongoing product launches, tests and campaigns.
Manage and own the relationship with your key business partners within product and technology.
Work closely with pan-regional comms teams as the product and tech subject matter expert, providing timely context and strategic partnership for regional and country-focused product and tech storytelling.
Manage and own relationships with media covering your scope directly, including identifying new reporters, outlets and approaches for engagement.
Drive proactive storytelling for new and evolving content-driven formats — including Live, Podcasts, and other emerging experiences — partnering closely with entertainment comms, publicity, marketing, and product teams to showcase these new approaches.
Own the development and operational management of messaging documents, launch calendars, and cross-functional alignment to ensure consistent, strategic narrative execution.
Work with cross-functional partners to align messaging and support major milestones, bringing operational excellence to planning, workflows, and stakeholder communication.
Qualifications
5–7 years of relevant communications experience across tech, innovation, entertainment, or related industries.
Deep fluency in internet culture and emerging new media platforms; chronically online in the best way.
Excellent written and verbal communications, and capable of distilling complex innovations into simple, resonant storytelling.
Strong ability to translate complex product capabilities into clear, resonant narratives for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated operational excellence — adept at managing launches, maintaining calendars, coordinating stakeholders, and driving alignment.
High judgment with the ability to make principled decisions, even amid ambiguity.
A strong point of view and the ability to effectively socialize and influence across cross-functional teams.
A collaborative, team-player mindset with comfort working independently and proactively.
A strong bias for action, curiosity, and an instinct for connecting dots across culture, product, and business priorities.
