About the Role:

Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. Our Labs & Membership organization plays a critical role in this transformation — evolving Hims & Hers from treatment-focused offerings into a connected healthcare platform that helps customers understand and improve their health continuously.

As Senior Director of Engineering for Labs & Membership, you will be the single engineering DRI responsible for the end-to-end experience across diagnostics, personalized insights, and membership. You’ll lead the teams building the technology that powers at-home testing, dynamic health insights, and the infrastructure that connects it all.

You’ll work closely with product, design, data, and operations leaders to deliver a seamless, intelligent experience that helps customers measure, manage, and improve their health over time. This is a pivotal leadership role where you’ll set the long-term technical and organizational strategy, ensuring our platforms scale to power continuous care for millions of members.

You Will:
  • Lead, coach, and inspire a team of directors, managers, and senior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Serve as the single engineering DRI for Labs & Membership — owning technical vision, strategy, and execution for diagnostics, insights, and membership experiences.

  • Define and deliver the engineering roadmap in partnership with product and design — powering at-home testing, connected insights, and subscription-based care.

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to create seamless, end-to-end user experiences across testing, treatment, and ongoing care.

  • Oversee the design and evolution of platform architecture — ensuring scalability, reliability, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with data and AI partners to develop predictive, personalized recommendations that increase engagement and retention.

  • Manage a complex portfolio of programs — balancing innovation with delivery excellence, quality, and operational rigor.

  • Build and scale high-performing engineering teams through hiring, coaching, and professional development.

  • Partner with executive leadership to shape the company’s long-term health platform strategy and roadmap.

  • Act as a trusted advisor across Hims & Hers, influencing senior stakeholders and representing engineering in key business decisions.

You Have:
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years leading multiple teams or organizations in high-growth environments.

  • Proven success leading cross-functional product engineering teams and owning end-to-end consumer experiences.

  • Experience in health tech, e-commerce, or subscription-based platforms preferred.

  • Strong technical background with understanding of modern web and service architectures (Node.js, GraphQL, React, TypeScript, AWS, Kubernetes).

  • Expertise in building scalable, secure, and compliant systems handling clinical or health-related data.

  • Experience integrating third-party data sources, APIs, and device platforms (labs, wearables, fulfillment).

  • Ability to define and execute technical roadmaps aligned with product vision and business outcomes.

  • Strong communication skills and executive presence — able to translate between technical and business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering talent.

  • Strategic thinker with a bias for action and passion for building user-centric, data-driven health experiences.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):
  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution

  • Offsite team retreats

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging. If you're excited about this role, we encourage you to apply—even if you're not sure if your background or experience is a perfect match.

Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
