It takes powerful technology to connect our brands and partners with an audience of hundreds of millions of people. Whether you’re looking to write mobile app code, engineer the servers behind our massive ad tech stacks, or develop algorithms to help us process trillions of data points a day, what you do here will have a huge impact on our business—and the world.

A Little About Us

Central Technology is the engine that powers Yahoo’s global systems. We build the foundational platforms, data products, and tooling that enable our business units to operate at scale with speed and efficiency. Within Central Tech, the FinOps team is the critical link between cloud consumption and financial accountability. We aren't just reporting costs; we are building the technical systems that define how Yahoo invests in the cloud.

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the FinOps team. This team owns the platforms, data products, tooling, and operational workflows that enable cloud cost visibility, financial planning, and cost accountability across the company.

You will report to the Engineering leadership within the CTO-led Central Technology unit. You will lead a hybrid team of three engineers and two analysts, partnering closely with Engineering, Finance, and business units stakeholders. The ideal candidate is an engineering leader who views AI as a force multiplier for financial transparency and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the FinOps Engineering Team: Manage and develop a hybrid team of engineers and analysts. Coach team members and identify opportunities to implement AI-driven efficiencies in day-to-day engineering and analytical workflows.

  • Own FinOps Platforms & Tooling: Lead the roadmap for internal systems supporting cloud visibility and chargeback. Transition manual reporting into AI-augmented oversight systems that proactively flag cost anomalies and optimization opportunities.

  • Drive Architectural Modernization: Modernize fragile processes into durable platforms. Leverage LLMs and natural language interfaces to make complex cloud billing data accessible and actionable for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Support Cloud Financial Strategy: Partner with Finance/FP&A to ensure accurate data delivery. Implement predictive forecasting models using AI/ML to improve the accuracy of monthly and annual planning cycles.

  • Collaborate & Influence: Serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership, translating technical cloud usage patterns into business-relevant cost insights and advocating for a mindset of continuous AI-driven optimization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in AWS and GCP billing data, cloud cost structures, and cost allocation challenges.

  • Experience with AI-assisted design or coding tools to accelerate team delivery.

  • Strong judgment around data quality, documentation, and building scalable processes.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical engineering and corporate finance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in engineering, cloud platforms, data systems, or internal platform domains.

  • 3+ years of people management experience, with a track record of leading hybrid technical/analytical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and structured interaction with LLMs for data analysis.

  • Experience with tools such as Cloudability, BigQuery, Looker, or AWS Cost Explorer.

  • Experience in a Platform Engineering organization at a global scale.

  • Experience replacing repetitive data-cleansing tasks with automated or AI-assisted workflows.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
