About Parkade

Parkade is modernizing private parking. We’re creating a world with far less parking — but one where every parking spot is available at the push of a button, and priced, managed and enforced well.

We are looking for a Manager/Director/Head of People (title varies by experience) to help us scale our 40+ person team to 100 employees and beyond. We imagine this role will likely be 70% HR and 30% recruiting. You’ll get a budget for recruiting/sourcing help or hires as needed.

In this role, you will own our entire people function, including HR, recruiting and onboarding. You will be the architect of our team, owning five key areas:

  1. People operations

  2. Policies & compliance

  3. Feedback

  4. Hiring process

  5. Culture

We want someone who can thoughtfully adapt enterprise-level policies to our agile, entrepreneurial environment while preserving what makes our culture special.

Key ResponsibilitiesPeople Operations
  • Own HRIS administration, payroll coordination, and benefits offering and enrollment

  • Generate workforce analytics and insights to inform business decisions

  • Manage the employee lifecycle from offer letter to offboarding

  • Quarterback all new employee onboardings — ensuring a basic level of consistency for everyone on things like onboarding checklists, 30-60-90 plans, etc while weaving in contextual steps that will vary by role

Policies & Compliance
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues with fairness, confidentiality, and sound judgment

  • Manage accommodation requests, any and all leaves, workplace investigations, and disciplinary processes

  • Be the internal owner of our benefits package, advocating and implementing for the changes you want to see, while balancing costs

  • Ensure compliance with employment law, all workforce classifications, and ethical standards

  • Own and sort out any compliance, insurance and benefits issues we run into with our employee base, which is half in California and half spread throughout the country

Feedback
  • Create a culture of accountability where performance standards are clear and the bar is held high

  • Ensure that feedback is regularly flowing in all directions — downwards, upwards and peer to peer

  • Develop and train our people managers through programming and direct feedback, including guiding them through any performance plans their direct reports may need

  • Navigate the delicate balance between startup autonomy and corporate requirements

Hiring Process
  • Own configuring our ATS (Ashby) for our recruiting and hiring process, from the job post, to the interview steps, to permissions

  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and succession planning

  • Plug in with all hiring managers to ensure they know how to open reqs, post roles and run a Parkade hiring process

  • As you and our leadership team determine recruiting needs, bring in help — full time, part time, consultant, etc — to source candidates, coordinate the process and recruit great talent. We expect you need to help if we have anything more than 1-2 junior roles open.

Culture
  • Work closely with the founders, our leaders and individual hires to keep Parkade a wonderfully weird, wacky and fun place to work, even as we grow

  • Help maintain, and add, traditions — including finding more ways to celebrate wins as a company or within teams

  • Build trust across the organization as the face of HR, people, talent, and culture

Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in a people role at technology companies

  • At least 3-4 years in a generalist and manager role, and at least one year spent as the sole people hire at a technology startup

  • Experience with:

    • A PEO (Professional Employer Organization) like Justworks

    • A mixed hourly-and-salaried workforce

    • A significant California-based employee base, plus some remote

  • Successful rollout of many different people changes across a wide range of areas

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of people experience

  • Experience personally doing recruiting and sourcing

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification

Location

This is an in-person, on-site role based in one of our offices (Los Angeles/Long Beach or San Francisco). Expect at least 4 days/week in person, and 1-2 times a month expect to travel to the other office.

Interview process
  1. 30 mins with CEO (30min)

  2. Deeper dive (1.75hrs)

    • 45 mins with Head of Finance

    • 60 mins with CEO

  3. Panel (4 hours hrs)

    • 45 mins of walkthrough/working session of first 90 days

    • 15 min prep for recruiting exercise

    • 30 mins of recruiting live exercise

    • 45 mins exec interview (VP Ops)

    • 1 hour final cofounders interview

    • 45 mins with outside HR consultant

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
