About STLabs

Standard Template Labs is building the next generation of IT Service Management. Our AI-native platform combines graph technology, intelligent workflows, and modern software architecture to help enterprises automate complex operational work.

We're rethinking how work gets done—replacing manual processes with intelligent, scalable automation.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Workflows team.

You'll build the platform that powers workflow automation across our product—from employee onboarding and access requests to incident response, approvals, and infrastructure operations. Working closely with Product and Design, you'll help create a flexible workflow engine that enables customers to automate complex business processes while integrating AI where it adds meaningful value.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on backend engineering role with significant ownership and technical influence.

What You'll Do
  • Design and build scalable backend services that power workflow execution and orchestration.

  • Develop reusable workflow components and APIs used across the platform.

  • Build reliable, event-driven systems that coordinate long-running business processes.

  • Partner with Product and Design to deliver intuitive workflow experiences.

  • Help define engineering best practices around scalability, reliability, and observability.

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Strong backend development skills in Go, Python, Java, or a similar language.

  • Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native applications.

  • Strong understanding of asynchronous processing and event-driven architectures.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.

Nice to Have

Experience with technologies such as:

  • Workflow orchestration platforms (Temporal, Cadence, Camunda, Argo, Airflow, Dagster, or similar)

  • Kubernetes and AWS

  • PostgreSQL, Kafka, or Redis

  • AI/LLM applications or agentic systems

  • Enterprise automation or integration platforms

Why STLabs?

You'll join a small, experienced engineering team building one of the core pillars of our product. You'll have meaningful ownership, work on technically challenging problems, and help shape how enterprises automate work in an AI-first world.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Build core systems for an AI-native enterprise platform—where AI isn’t an add-on, it’s the foundation.

  • Work in a team that uses AI as a development accelerator—pairing human expertise with machine intelligence to move fast and build better.

  • Help define modern best practices for AI-augmented software engineering.

  • Join a focused, collaborative team in Midtown Manhattan—moving quickly, experimenting boldly, and building together.

What We Offer

  • Build foundational product features for an AI-first enterprise platform

  • The opportunity to take ownership of critical systems that scale to millions of users

  • A culture that values craftsmanship, autonomy, and technical excellence

  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits package

  • Work from our Flatiron District, Manhattan office, where you’ll be side-by-side with the founding team in a supportive, collaborative setting. Our team works on-site five days a week, growing and building together, and the location is easy to reach with plenty of public transportation options.

As an equal opportunity employer, we don’t tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. Whether that’s based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state or local laws.
