PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA

Job Duties: Design and develop security, authentication, and identity management software products and features. Build out scalable solutions, and seamless experiences in partnership with PayPal’s partner development teams for open-source web applications such as Ruby on Rails in multiple regions. Own the concept, implementation, and delivery of technical solutions that affect the authentication stories of the entire organization. Partner closely with the product team and cross-functional experts responsible for building a robust user management experience. Work with business leads and stakeholders to analyze and define the technical requirements for achieving compelling customer experiences and identify and eliminate software design or implementation of faults that are negatively impacting technical requirements. Ensure compliance with software design principles, operational procedures, site architecture, and the design of the components to enhance the ability for software components to be monitored and operated. Mentor and support engineers, providing hands-on guidance and sharing technical expertise to elevate team skills and productivity. Produce modular, well-commented software code that fully complies with the tools, techniques, and best practices around quality assurance in use by the team. Develop automated tests and deliver high-quality software code to production within a short development cycle in the continuous integration and delivery environment. Define the overall test strategy for assigned software features and scrum teams define automation strategy and ensure testability. Execute refactoring and technical debt removal initiatives as described by senior members of the team. Use business domains during software design and implementation activities to create software products that support business capabilities. Estimate software engineering effort, plan implementation, and roll out system changes while maintaining our five 9s stability requirements. Implement software product features focused on design activities in support of implementation by the overall team. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1. Experience designing and developing large-scale backend APIs using TTD (3 years).

2. Experience in Okta IdP integrations with third party systems as well as JWT (JSON Web Token) auth strategies (3 years).

3. Experience in the development and maintenance of Ruby and Ruby on Rails applications in production environments (3 years).

4. Experience with Redis and other caching technologies for maximizing app performance (3 years).

5. Experience on how to maintain and enhance application pipelines powered by Kubernetes (3 years).

6. Experience with Agile environments with dynamic initiatives (3 years).

7. Experience with discovery, design, and execution of complex technical projects (3 years).

8. Experience with cloud-based architectures, specifically AWS (2 years).

9. Experience with database optimizations and query count management (2 years).

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is: 

Primary Location | Pay Range: 

San Jose, California | Salary: $158,735.00-243,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
