About the Team:
The AI & Data Platform team's mission is to build and maintain a rock-solid, scalable, and efficient foundation for all data and machine learning operations at Quizlet. This team is the bedrock upon which our AI ambitions are built. As we consolidate our AI efforts to create a unified and powerful product portfolio, the platform team's primary focus is on achieving operational excellence. We aggressively buy and leverage best-in-class MLOps and DataOps technologies to accelerate the pace of innovation across Quizlet.
About the Role:
As a Staff AI & Data Platform Engineer, you will help lead the design and development of Quizlet’s analytical data and machine learning infrastructure, ensuring our platforms are scalable, reliable, and designed for long-term success. You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams to define technical direction, guide architectural decisions, and mentor engineers across Data Science, ML Engineering, and Product.
This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to deliver systems that accelerate ML and data innovation at scale. You’ll measure success through platform adoption, reliability improvements, and developer productivity outcomes.
We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our San Francisco office. To help foster team collaboration, we require employees to be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
In this role, you will:
- Accelerate and amplify the work of our Machine Learning Engineers by building ML infrastructure that streamlines the development, testing, and deployment of models to production
- Collaborate with Product Management, Data Analytics, and Product Engineering to build systems that support diverse data needs
- Architect, build, and scale core data and ML services with a focus on resiliency, security, and long-term maintainability
- Enable large-scale data ingestion and processing, from real-time streaming to batch workloads, ensuring performance and reliability
- Drive platform adoption across engineering and data teams, improving developer experience and operational efficiency
- Mentor engineers and influence best practices for reliability, scalability, and automation in data workflows
- Lead cross-functional initiatives and set technical direction for data and ML infrastructure at Quizlet
What you bring to the table:
- 8+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale data or ML platforms in production environments
- Proven track record of leading technical architecture and influencing platform strategy
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, data pipelines, and ML infrastructure (e.g., Airflow, dbt, GCP, Kubernetes, feature stores)
- Experience designing reliable, observable, and cost-efficient infrastructure at scale
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and align diverse stakeholders
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience owning platform architecture and long-term roadmap definition
- Expertise in cross-cloud data infrastructure or hybrid orchestration
- Contributions to open-source data/ML tooling or internal frameworks
- Demonstrated impact on developer experience or data reliability culture

Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a starting base salary of $197,631 - $259,390, depending on location and experience, as well as company stock options
