Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of individual, corporate, and partnership tax preparation, including complex and multi-state returns.
  • Provide advanced tax planning, research, and strategic consulting to optimize clients’ tax positions.
  • Ensure full compliance with US federal, state, and local tax laws, including timely filings, estimated payments, and extensions.
  • Review tax returns prepared by junior staff and provide technical guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and supply required tax documentation and support.
  • Analyze financial data, tax implications, and regulatory changes to provide proactive recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate and organized client tax files, documentation, and workpapers using tax and accounting software.
  • Support client onboarding, ensuring accurate data collection and smooth transition of tax engagements.
  • Assist with process improvements, including automation of spreadsheets, workflows, and tax preparation procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support accounting, advisory, payroll, or operations teams during off-peak periods or as business needs arise.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as assigned (e.g., special tax reviews, internal process improvement tasks, system enhancements).
  • Contribute to business development — support client acquisition and retention efforts by assisting in proposals, responding to potential clients’ inquiries, and contributing to client-service excellence.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment while delivering high-quality client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree or Taxation focus is a plus.
  • CPA license required.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in tax preparation and tax planning, preferably in Public Accounting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state taxation; International Tax exposure is a plus.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and tax software such as UltraTax (or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dependable, self-driven, able to manage deadlines independently.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude and ability to guide junior staff.
  • Fast learner with the ability to interpret new regulations and master new tools quickly.
