What if the work you did every day could impact the lives of people you know? Or all of humanity?

At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. Our efforts enable life-changing discoveries that are transforming human health through the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and new treatment options for patients.

Working at Illumina means being part of something bigger than yourself. Every person, in every role, has the opportunity to make a difference. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.

Illumina's instruments generate more sequencing data than any other platform on earth. The strategic data programs you will deliver as part of our BioInsight business sit at the intersection of that data generation and the world's most consequential genomics research: national genome projects sequencing entire populations, biopharma programs linking genomic variation to therapeutic targets, and clinical research initiatives building the evidence base for precision medicine.

This is a role where your technical work directly enables scientific discovery at population scale. You will not be writing slide decks about what could be built. You will be building it, operating it, and delivering it to partners who are using it to advance human health.

What You'll Do
  • Own end-to-end delivery of strategic data programs. You will be a single-threaded technical owner for one or more data programs, responsible for architecture, implementation, partner onboarding, data delivery, and enablement. Today's programs include aggregated genomic data partnerships with major biopharma companies, data subscription products, and regional genomics initiatives. The portfolio is growing, and you will shape what comes next.
  • Drive data quality control. You will build and enforce the quality frameworks that ensure every dataset we deliver meets production-grade standards: automated validation, lineage tracking, anomaly detection, and systematic QC across cohort-scale genomic and phenotypic data.
  • Enable customers to get value from data quickly. Our customers are scientists and researchers. You will design the delivery experience so that partners receive data with clear guidance on how to use it, including documentation, example analyses, onboarding materials, and support patterns that make our customers heroes in their own organizations.
  • Build reusable, well-documented practices for owning and operating data businesses. Every program you deliver should produce artifacts that make the next program faster: standardized pipelines, automated validation frameworks, operational playbooks, and documented delivery patterns.
What You Bring
  • Genomics and multiomics domain expertise. You have worked professionally in genomics, bioinformatics, or computational biology. You understand secondary analysis (eg. variant calling, Peturb-seq), common genomic data formats, and the analytical workflows that scientific researchers run on sequencing data.
  • Coding and data analysis experience. You are comfortable with R, Jupyter, and/or Python. You have experience designing data pipelines, not just using them. You can evaluate data quality, build integration workflows, and work across heterogeneous data sources.
  • Enablement and scaling mindset. You have built documentation, onboarding materials, playbooks, or reusable patterns that helped customers or internal teams adopt complex data products. You think in terms of repeatability: every engagement should leave behind artifacts that make the next one faster.
  • Autonomy and judgment in a fast-moving environment. You operate with minimal direction. Given a program objective and a set of constraints, you identify the technical approach, sequence the work, make tradeoffs, and drive to delivery. You escalate the right things at the right time. You write things down. You make the people around you more effective.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience in solutions architecture, bioinformatics, data engineering, or a comparable technical role in genomics or life sciences.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with DRAGEN and Illumina sequencing platforms
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and/or Illumina cloud software (ICA, BaseSpace Sequence Hub)
  • Experience with population-scale genomics or biobank programs
  • Experience with workflow orchestration systems (e.g., Nextflow)
  • Partner-facing delivery experience as a technical point of contact for an external partner, customer, or collaborator on a complex engagement
  • Contributions to open-source bioinformatics tools or published computational biology research

Requirements:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience
