Who we are looking for 

Slate is looking for an energetic, organized, experienced Staff Design Engineer to join our growing team. 

What you get to do 

  • The Staff Design Engineer will help our customers engage with our vehicle program through clarity of concepts and workflow. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading impactful UX projects in disruptive, ambiguous problem spaces. They will be a part of the team responsible for defining how people interact with Slate products.  The ideal candidate will be proficient at establishing User Experience (UX) processes to drive ease of use and consistency across Slate products – in and out of vehicle. 

  • The responsibilities of the Principal UX Designer include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Participate in UX strategy, planning, and reviews. 

  • Promote, and advise stakeholders on, the user-centric approach and apply UX methodologies to validate and inform design decisions. 

  • Build relationships with key partners in Brand, Design and HMI, Engineering and Software teams. 

  • Help balance strategic and tactical initiatives, to help ensure the team is solving the most critical user needs. 

  • Expertly articulate insights and actionable UX recommendations to executive level stakeholders. 

What you bring to the team 

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in User Experience Design, HMI, communications, or related UX field. 

  • You bring 10+ years professional work experience leading high impact UX projects. 

  • You’re experienced in interface design and evaluation; thorough knowledge and experience of a range of UX approaches and methodologies is a must. 

  • You have a passion for emerging technologies, new interaction models, apps, and interactive interfaces. 

  • You are a proven strategic thinker and collaborator who flourishes in an ambiguous problem space 

  • You actively engage your teammates and proactively initiate new projects. 

  • You have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills 

  • You’re proficient in both writing and speaking the English language 

  • You’re proficient with UX design tools such as Figma. 

  • You have deep understanding of accessibility and inclusivity in UX.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in in User Experience Design, HMI, communications, or related UX field. 

  • Experience in automotive or consumer electronics industries  

  • Experience working within an agile development process
