About Redwood Materials

Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

Staff Finance Associate, Energy Storage

We’re looking for a Staff Finance Associate to join our Energy Storage group in San Francisco. In this role, you’ll operate at the intersection of supply chain, manufacturing, and finance, serving as the financial and analytical backbone of our product cost and sourcing strategy. This is not a traditional finance role - this position is focused on driving BOM transparency, cost optimization, and supply chain decision-making across our energy storage business.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Own and maintain detailed bill of materials (BOM) cost models across all energy storage products, including raw materials, cells, modules, power electronics, balance of system, and packaging — ensuring accuracy, version control, and visibility across the organization
  • Develop and manage should-cost models to benchmark components and subassembly pricing against market rates, supplier quotes, and internal expectations
  • Identify, quantify, and drive cost reduction initiatives across the supply chain in partnership with engineering, procurement, and operations — including supplier negotiations, design-to-value opportunities, and make-vs-buy analysis
  • Analyze supplier cost structures, trade terms, and logistics economics to inform sourcing strategy and mitigate supply risk
  • Build financial and operational frameworks that connect procurement decisions, supplier performance, and manufacturing trade-offs to margin and unit economics outcomes
  • Partner cross-functionally to inform pricing, sourcing, second-sourcing, and supply chain strategy with rigorous cost and operational analysis

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong supply chain, manufacturing, or operational finance backgrounds
  • 5+ years of experience as a Global Supply Manager (GSM), Commodity Manager, or Sourcing Manager, or Supply Chain Program Manager OR 5+ years managing finance for a manufacturing operation, plant, or production environment
  • Strong foundation in BOM cost modeling, should-cost analysis, sourcing strategy, or manufacturing economics
  • Deep familiarity with supply chain cost drivers, supplier pricing dynamics, and operational trade-offs
  • Exceptional Excel and modeling skills, with the ability to build bottoms-up cost analyses tied to real-world operations
  • Ability to translate complex supply chain and technical inputs into clear financial insights for cross-functional and executive stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working across engineering, procurement, operations, and leadership teams
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to structure ambiguous, operationally complex problems in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience in energy storage, battery systems, or other manufacturing-heavy, hardware businesses
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place
