Role overview:

We're looking for a Staff fullstack engineer to set technical direction for Dispatch's platform. You'll own the highest-leverage architecture decisions, ship the systems behind our hardest problems, and force-multiply multiple engineering teams. This is a senior IC role — no direct reports — reporting to an Engineering Manager.

Where you'll make an impact:

  • Lead the architecture for our hardest cross-cutting platform decisions — service boundaries, data models, sync semantics, and integration patterns — and make them defensibly, in writing and in conversation with the engineers who will live with them.

  • Ship the highest-complexity systems end-to-end — data orchestration, sync, custodian integrations, and customer-facing apps. You stay hands-on in production code.

  • Raise the technical bar across the engineering org on system design, code quality, and observability. Engineers across teams seek your review because it sharpens their work.

  • Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leadership to shape the roadmap — surfacing trade-offs, sequencing decisions, and risks the plan depends on.

  • Mentor and uplevel senior engineers without managing them. Your influence shows up in design reviews, the systems you build, and the example you set.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with a personal track record of architecting and shipping high-scale, high-complexity production systems.

  • Deep fullstack depth — comfortable writing production Node and React at a high level of craft.

  • Experience setting technical direction across multiple engineers or teams — you've been the person whose architectural calls others built on top of.

  • Strong record of working closely with cross-functional product teams to ship customer-facing software that holds up in production.

  • Meaningful time at an early-stage, high-growth company — startup work as a core part of your career, not a brief stint, on teams that shipped weekly or faster with output that held up under that pace.

  • A career spent hands-on in production code, shipping end-to-end — not specs written or systems proposed, but production outcomes you owned: the hardest bugs, gnarliest migrations, and most fragile systems.

  • Evidence of force-multiplying the engineers around you — through design reviews, mentorship, or code that became a template others built from. References should speak to how the bar moved up around you.

You'll stand out if you have:

  • Experience building B2B software and/or fintech software — bonus for wealth management, custody, financial data infrastructure, public APIs, or MCP servers.

  • Experience at seed/early-stage startups (eg, being a first-10 engineer at a company).

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale — event streaming, sync engines, idempotency, consistency models.

  • Experience building and maintaining open source software.

  • Previously started a company and/or launched personal projects.

  • Experience with AI development tooling, or building AI/LLM features into production products.

Our tech stack:

React, Node, Fastify, MUI, React Query, Vite, Storybook, Playwright, Go, Postgres, gRPC, Protobuf, Redis, AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions
