About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is looking for a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to develop electronics systems for multiple micromobility platforms.

What You Will Do

  • Directly responsible for execution of power conversion PCBA development spanning design, development, validation, and production ramp.

  • Focus on highly integrated and cost-effective design of systems spanning 48–100 V and 1–10 kW peak power range.

  • Familiarity with common sensors used in actuation systems, including position sensors (encoders, resolvers, Hall-effect sensors, inductive sensors, etc.).

  • Plan schedules, development steps, test resources, and contract manufacturer EOL activities.

  • Work with systems engineering to author and ratify product requirements including cost, performance, reliability, regulatory compliance, etc.

  • Perform simulation, analysis, and validation of critical circuits. Perform worst-case circuit analysis and determine corresponding validation.

  • Specify and select critical components, and perform characterization, schematic capture, and layout of power electronics, controls, and auxiliary circuits.

  • Collaborate with the mechanical engineering team on sensor selection, design, and validation.

  • Collaborate with firmware and controls teams on hardware integration and control strategies.

  • Work with functional safety peers to identify critical diagnostics and protection circuits and deliver appropriate design implementations.

  • Compile DFMEA, PFMEA, and validation plans.

  • Perform hands-on integration and test activities while directing and collaborating with test peers and external resources such as certification labs and contract manufacturers.

  • Support thermal, EMC, reliability, and NVH testing.

  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and firmware peers to execute a complete system solution.

  • Provide status updates in program meetings and to leadership.

What You Will Bring

  • Electrical Engineering degree or related fields with a focus on power electronics/power systems

  • 5+ years working in power electronics design, preferably traction inverter.

  • Experience designing and validating sensing circuits.

  • Experience with actuators (BLDC) and position sensors.

  • Proficiency with power switches (MOSFET, GaN, SiC).

  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits including microcontrollers and peripherals, commonly used for power electronics applications.

  • Proficiency with common simulation tools, LTspice, PLECS, Matlab.

  • Hands on experience with low/high power lab equipment with voltage range up to 1kV.

  • Experience delivering products to the market.

The salary for this position ranges from $200,000 - $230,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Perks & Benefits
• Robust health coverage — excellent health, dental, and vision insurance covered up to 100% by ALSO, with FSA & HSA options
• One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates
