Ready to Power a Smarter World with us?
Generac is hiring for a Staff Product Manager (Level IV) who can drive both hardware and software initiatives across our residential solar and storage product line. This person bridges the gap between engineering, operations, and customers — turning complex technical challenges into shipped products that work in the real world.
If you’ve been on a roof, debugged a commissioning flow, and written a product roadmap, we would love to speak with you.
This role can be located out of either our TBD Oakland CA office, N. Billerica MA or S. Portland ME office. Role is onsite in the office.
What You’ll Do
Own the product roadmap for residential solar and storage offerings, spanning hardware design, embedded firmware, and customer-facing software
Drive cross-functional initiatives from concept through launch, coordinating across engineering, manufacturing, field operations, and sales
Define requirements, write specs, and prioritize r— balancing technical debt, customer needs, and business goals
Lead new product introduction (NPI) efforts, managing the transition from prototype to volume production
Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to stakeholders at every level — from installers in the field to the executive team
Partner with field teams to understand real-world installation challenges and feed those insights back into the product
Strong project management instincts — you keep things moving, unblock teams, and hold yourself and others accountable to timelines
You can explain a BOM issue to an engineer and a value proposition to a customer in the same afternoon
Comfort working across the stack: mechanical/electrical hardware, embedded systems, cloud platforms, and mobile/web applications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or other Engineering
- 5+ years of product management experience in residential solar, energy storage, or a closely related hardware/software domain
- Hands-on familiarity with residential solar installations — inverters, battery systems, metering, interconnection, permitting workflows
- Demonstrated record of shipping at least one hardware or integrated hardware/software product from development through market launch
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or other disciplines
- Experience with energy management systems, time-of-use optimization, or grid services (demand response, VPPs)
- NABCEP certification or equivalent hands-on solar/storage training
- Experience with agile development methodologies in a hardware and software environment
- Familiarity with UL/IEC certification processes for energy products
