Company Overview

Joby Advanced Development designs, develops, and flight-tests novel aircraft using a software-first autonomy approach. We build and deploy autonomy, perception, planning, and radar systems across conventional, electric, and hydrogen-electric aircraft in both CTOL and VTOL configurations.

Overview

As a Staff Program Manager in the Advanced Development group, you will serve as a strategic program lead across multi-disciplinary engineering teams, directly driving execution and alignment for the J208 program. You will take primary responsibility for overall program execution, financial oversight, and integrated master schedule performance across multiple domains. In this role, you will evaluate broad system interdependencies, solve for complex critical path issues and bottlenecks before they impact strategic objectives, and serve as a decision-maker and thought leader across technical workstreams.

Responsibilities
  • Direct, evaluate, and report on total J208 program schedule performance and financial health, developing complex forecasting models across engineering workstreams
  • Partner with engineering leads and cross-functional teams to map complex multi-tier project dependencies, identify critical path drivers, and proactively resolve systemic program bottlenecks
  • Integrate with Finance to track, analyze, and optimize total program cost performance, aligning budget forecasts with overarching company objectives
  • Understand and solve for advanced or unique schedule, resource, or technical constraints, developing or selecting new program management tools, methods, and frameworks to maintain program momentum
  • Facilitate strategic cross-functional alignment and build coalitions across technical hardware, software, flight test, and business operations teams to manage down-the-line system impacts and interdependencies
  • Develop program management standards, concepts, and reporting frameworks, while mentoring and directing team members across diverse functional backgrounds to improve operational efficiency
  • Own and manage total program risk profiles and actionable mitigation plans, regularly synthesizing complex technical and financial trade-offs to present conclusions and strategic recommendations to senior leadership
  • Synthesize, summarize, and articulate conclusions and recommendations from wide-ranging sources to directly influence program strategy, operational direction, and execution
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience in program management, project engineering, or technical operations (or Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience, or PhD + 3+ years).
  • Demonstrated expertise taking primary responsibility for building and maintaining complex integrated master schedules (IMS) and managing large-scale program budgets within technical, aerospace, or advanced hardware environments.
  • Deep experience across multiple technical domains with a proven ability to independently resolve advanced engineering workflow blockers and critical path constraints.
  • Recognized communication and leadership skills with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment, building coalitions, and advising senior leadership on strategic program decisions.

This position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15. “US Person” includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.

Desired
  • Advanced proficiency in developing or selecting modern enterprise program management and schedule tracking systems (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Smartsheet, or Primavera P6)
  • Broad experience navigating complex aerospace development lifecycles, rapid prototyping environments, or flight test operations
  • Advanced background in integrated budget forecasting, earned value management (EVM), and variance analysis for large hardware development programs
  • Experience in the development, procurement, or utilization of military aviation systems
