Primary Purpose
The Security Engineer IV is an enterprise technical authority who sets security engineering strategy and ensures alignment with business and risk objectives. This position leads Application Security and execution of larger security programs. It drives adoption of zero-trust principles, advanced detection, and secure-by-default platforms across Ahold Delhaize's ecosystem. The engineer influences roadmaps, mentors senior engineers, and measures outcomes through meaningful metrics.
Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Chicago, IL.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive adoption of security architecture patterns (identity, network, data, cloud) within the Platform.
- Lead large-scale adoption programs (e.g., Unified API Security, AI & Agentic App Sec, Zero-Friction Secure-by-Default) from requirements through rollout.
- Establish engineering standards, reusable controls/blueprints, and assurance testing to validate control effectiveness.
- Direct threat hunting and purple-team exercises; coordinate remediation across multiple technology towers.
- Focus detection engineering strategy, telemetry pipelines, and use-case development with measurable outcomes.
- Advise product teams on secure design, privacy-by-design, and resilience; review critical changes and exceptions.
- Establish metrics and risk reduction KPIs and report outcomes to leadership.
- Mentor and coach Levels 1-3; provide technical reviews and develop learning paths.
- Guide vendor selection and manage strategic partners; optimize cost and performance.
- Drive world class vulnerability discovery and mitigation across all application teams.
- Lead security strategy and implementation for emerging AI-driven and agentic systems.
- Establish, mature, and scale an enterprise threat modeling discipline.
- Embed security practices earlier in the SDLC and expand AppSec reach into engineering teams.
- Operate as one of two leaders within AppSec-partnering closely with the Edge Security lead while maintaining distinct areas of ownership.
- Familiarity with at least some of our tooling/frameworks:GitHub/GitHub Advanced Security, Azure, Java/Java Spring, Kubernetes, Jenkins, jFrog, Terraform, SonarQube, Datadog, Microsoft Defender for Cloud
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, CIS or related (or equivalent related work experience).
- 8 or more years of experience in relevant job or field of technology. Experience in an advanced role or technical capacity. Experience, directly or indirectly, managing, guiding, training and onboarding team members in relevant technologies, capabilities or skills.
- Advanced automation and engineering skills; ability to build platforms and pipelines at scale.
- Exceptional communication, influence, and decision-making across executive and technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in relevant field of study, Additional trainings or certifications in relevant field of study.
- Experience in Agile teams and or Product/Platform based operating model.
- Experience in retail or grocery.
- Experience in leading teams.
