Why this role?
As a Staff Engineer on the Guardrails team, you will provide technical leadership for the group responsible for Snyk’s high-leverage Policy Engine and approval workflows. You will fundamentally improve our group product and technical strategy, ensuring our logic layer—which governs how risk is accepted or blocked—scales to meet the needs of the AI era.
You will be a driving force behind our massive architectural evolution, moving legacy services into a high-scale, event-driven data pipeline. This role is about more than just code; it’s about breaking down ambiguous design choices and fostering an environment of collaboration and mentorship.
What You’ll Do:
Drive Technical Leadership: Proactively identify and design improvements to the system for near-term and long-term strategic innovation.
Architectural Evolution: Lead the migration of policy logic into a high-scale, event-driven architecture capable of enriching millions of security findings in real-time.
Solve Ambiguity: Understand, break down, and tackle complex design choices, such as high-scale identity and persistence challenges.
Champion Growth: Mentor team members to improve their technical skills and drive the adoption of industry best practices across the group.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with scanning engines, data platforms, and developer tooling teams to ensure governance logic is unified across the development lifecycle.
Hands-on Contribution: Actively engage in coding while ensuring internal SLOs for our service architecture are met.
What You Bring:
At least 10 years’ experience in software engineering, with expertise in TypeScript and/or Go.
Experience driving experimentation with new technologies, and ability to drive improvements to stability, performance, and security across multiple teams.
A collaborative mindset, and history of building trust between teammates and stakeholders to resolve complex conflicts between groups.
A deep understanding of developer workflows and a passion for boosting productivity while reducing business risk.
It’d Be Awesome If You Also…
Have hands-on experience building modern security tools.
Contribute to open-source or developer communities.
Love solving complex problems with a collaborative team.
