NovaSeq X Series Core Consumables

As Staff / Sr. Staff Product Manager for the NovaSeq X Series Core Consumables portfolio, you will drive the business performance, strategic direction, and sustained growth of one of Illumina’s most critical high-throughput sequencing revenue lines.

This role operates as the business owner for the NovaSeq X core consumables portfolio, responsible for identifying and executing the highest-impact levers to increase customer adoption, expand utilization across the installed base, improve portfolio mix, and strengthen long-term platform competitiveness.

You will translate customer behavior, application trends, competitive dynamics, and installed base economics into clear product, pricing, and commercial actions that drive measurable business impact. Working cross-functionally with sales, marketing, pricing, support, operations, and R&D, you will ensure the portfolio continues to evolve in ways that maximize customer value and revenue growth.

The ideal candidate combines strong product management fundamentals with commercial intuition, strategic thinking, and the ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed environment.

Primary ResponsibilitiesBusiness Ownership and Portfolio Performance
  • Own performance of the NovaSeq X core consumables portfolio, including adoption trends, utilization growth, and portfolio mix
  • Identify and execute the highest-impact levers to increase consumables pull-through across the global installed base
  • Develop strategies to expand share of wallet across customer segments and applications
  • Translate business insights into clear actions across product strategy, commercial approach, and portfolio positioning
  • Define and monitor key business metrics to assess portfolio health and identify growth opportunities
  • Support forecasting and business planning activities tied to portfolio performance
Market Insight and Strategic Direction
  • Develop deep understanding of customer segments, applications, and workflows that drive sequencing consumption behavior
  • Analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and customer needs to inform portfolio direction
  • Translate customer and market insight into prioritized recommendations for future consumables and chemistry enhancements
  • Partner with R&D and technical product managers to ensure development priorities align to the highest-value business opportunities
  • Assess product-application fit across key customer segments to guide strategic investment decisions
Commercial Strategy and Growth Enablement
  • Partner with sales, regional marketing, and pricing teams to define portfolio strategies that increase adoption and utilization
  • Develop commercial approaches that enable sales teams to effectively position the portfolio and expand consumables usage within strategic accounts
  • Support development of pricing and packaging approaches aligned to customer economics and long-term platform value
  • Contribute to sales enablement efforts that clearly communicate value and drive expansion of consumption
  • Partner with internal library preparation teams and ecosystem collaborators to enable workflows that support application expansion and drive incremental consumables utilization
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Drive alignment across sales, marketing, R&D, operations, finance, and support around portfolio priorities
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for initiatives that improve portfolio performance
  • Communicate portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership
  • Influence decision-making across a complex, global organization to ensure execution against key priorities
  • Build strong relationships with key customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between customer needs and business strategy

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in product management within life sciences, genomics, or related technical markets
  • Strong understanding of next-generation sequencing workflows, applications, and customer needs
  • Experience translating customer insight and market dynamics into product and commercial strategy
  • Ability to analyze business performance data and identify actionable growth opportunities
  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization
  • Strong strategic thinking skills combined with ability to execute in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations and decisions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across technical and business audiences
  • Proven ability to operate with ownership mindset and accountability for business outcomes
Qualifications
  • BS in relevant field such as genomics, molecular biology, engineering, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with complex technical products and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Familiarity with sequencing applications, workflows, and customer segments strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

The estimated base salary range for the Staff/Sr. Staff Product Manager role based in the United States of America is: $178,800 - $268,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long‑term growth in the role. Most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
