About Us

iota Biosciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of Astellas Pharma US, is advancing a new class of bioelectronic medicines through the development of fully implantable Class III medical devices. Our proprietary technologies open therapeutic and diagnostic possibilities not previously accessible to clinicians.

Together with Astellas, we are committed to patient-centric design, scientific and engineering excellence, and cross-functional teamwork. These principles guide us in bringing transformative, first-of-its-kind technologies into the clinic and closer to patients.

The Role

At iota Biosciences, we are transforming the future of medical care through wireless, implantable technology. The Wireless Systems Engineer will lead the design and development of the wireless subsystem for our implantable bladder device, with the goal of improving quality of life for individuals living with underactive bladder syndrome. This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving R&D environment. You’ll be joining at an early stage with the opportunity to define the systems architecture from the ground up. Your work will directly shape the system’s power delivery, wireless communication, and energy efficiency, making this an ideal position for someone who thrives on technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and building technology that has real-world meaningful impact.

You might thrive in this role if:

· You are energized by hands-on engineering and end-to-end system design

· You have a growth mindset, always learning and iterating· You embrace complex technical challenges, with the ability to think creatively and work cross-functionally to get to a solution

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of safety-critical RF/electrical systems and architectures, spanning digital, analog, power, and packaging disciplines from the board level to system level.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, firmware, mechanical, and verification engineers to ensure comprehensive fulfillment of product requirements.

  • Execute hardware testing and failure analysis in accordance with regulatory standards such as IEC 60601 and ISO 14708

What does a typical day look like?

  • Run RF and electromagnetic simulations to design antennas and ensure they meet safety standards (like SAR) for implanted devices.

  • Model how wireless signals travel through human tissue and optimize performance for real-world biological environments.

  • Test your simulations in the lab using tissue-equivalent materials and RF measurement tools to validate performance.

  • Explore and implement wireless power transfer and energy-efficient communication protocols to extend device longevity.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (firmware, mechanical, systems) to build and refine implantable medical devices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S with 8+ Years of experience in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • Design experience with wireless power and communications systems (RF, BLE, WIFI) including familiarity with EM tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with all areas of system PCB design including part selection, fabrication, PCB stack-up and design rules, schematic capture, Spice simulations (PSPICE, LTSPICE), library management, board layout

  • Experience designing power systems and Li-ion battery charging modules

  • Experience with active Class III implantable medical devices
