Base Salary: 110,000-130,000
Variable Comp: 20% performance bonus of $22,000 to $26,000

We’re seeking a State and Local Tax Expert with extensive experience in multi-state compliance and consulting. You’ll play a critical role in developing and validating the tax data and documentation that power our AI systems.

You’ll collaborate closely with our data and engineering teams to ensure our AI models reflect the nuances of real-world state and local tax compliance across jurisdictions.

What you’ll be doing
- Prepare, review, and validate state and local tax documentation and datasets, including income, franchise, and sales and use tax returns.
- Develop and refine state-specific workpapers, apportionment schedules, nexus analyses, and adjustment templates.
- Conduct in-depth research on multi-jurisdictional tax laws to enhance the accuracy of AI-generated outputs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex state tax concepts into structured, machine-readable formats.
- Monitor state and local tax law updates and incorporate key changes into training datasets.
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and data integrity across all tax content and training materials.
- Provide expert feedback on AI model outputs to improve precision, context, and realism.
What makes you a good fit
- 5+ years of experience in state and local tax compliance and consulting.
- Proven track record preparing and reviewing multi-state income, franchise, sales and use, and other state and local tax returns for individuals, small businesses, and mid-sized entities.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing comprehensive state and local tax workpapers, including apportionment schedules, nexus analyses, and state-specific adjustments.
- Strong background conducting state and local tax research to resolve complex technical issues across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated tax content, identifying errors, omissions, and edge cases, and apply your SALT expertise to validate and improve it.
- Hands-on experience managing clients with multi-state tax obligations, including coordinating compliance across multiple jurisdictions and addressing varying state requirements.
- Experience serving clients across diverse industries with a focus on individuals and small to medium-sized businesses.
- CPA, EA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in using tax and accounting software, along with collaboration tools like Slack, Google Workspace, and Fathom.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with indirect tax automation tools or SALT-focused technology solutions.
- Background in startups or fast-paced, tech-driven environments.
