Responsibilities

About the role: 

Our Strategic Account Manager (SAM) program is a 6-8 month developmental program that prepares participants for an Account Manager assignment upon completion of onboarding based on business needs. Upon completion of the SAM program, you will help equip our dealers to sell more new GM units, used vehicles, and drive profitability.  You will manage assigned dealer relationships within a geographic territory to achieve key objectives while offering support and service on all GM Financial initiatives and systems.  You will maintain effective communication with dealers and appropriate internal partners.  You must be self-motivated with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively to drive change in your assigned market.

 

In the SAM developmental program you will:

  • Work on a team of 3-6 SAMs, you will have exposure to job shadows, role plays, credit underwriting, and assessments to prepare you for the consultative sales field assignment
  • Travel frequently throughout this program to develop strong personal networks of business professionals within GM Financial and the automotive industry
  • Be exposed to other aspects of Dealer Services, Credit, and GM Protection, and may provide coverage in a variety of capacities 

 

Upon completion of the program you will:

  • Professionally represent the brand and demonstrate our captive value proposition 
  • Manage dealer relationships to drive sales and engagement with GM Financial 
  • Support and market all programs, systems, incentives, and rewards
  • Learn our credit underwriting process and assist credit centers in decisioning loans and leases, which will include weekends
  • Act as a liaison between the dealer and the Credit Center, Funding, Commercial Lending, and other functional areas to resolve issues by partnering with subject matter experts
  • Analyze dealer-specific data using reporting tools and take appropriate action
  • Identify and resolve dealer issues presenting excessive risk to GM Financial such as portfolio issues, fraud, and dealer agreement violations
  • Present information to senior level managers within GM Financial and GM dealerships
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, excellence, inclusion, and integrity
Qualifications

  • Must have strong interpersonal and people skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently and prioritize effectively

  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation
  • Long-term mobility is beneficial for career development and advancement within the sales organization at GM Financial

 

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred, or extensive relevant experience
  • 1-2 years of successful sales or prior credit underwriting experience preferred

Working Conditions

  • This SAM role is based at our Corporate Headquarters in Fort Worth, TX, during the 6-8 months of training and will require extensive travel including overnight stays.
  • This is a field-based role requiring operation of a GM company vehicle assigned to you for business and personal use. You will be required to have a current valid state issued driver’s license. 
  • The onboarding program will include credit underwriting which may include weekends.
  • The base salary is $60,000 a year plus annual bonus. We provide corporate housing for candidates and a pool vehicle during the duration of the training if applicable. Once the SAM training is complete and you are deployed to an assigned territory, the base salary will increase to $72,000, possibly more based on various factors including location and previous experience. You will also be eligible to participate in our annual bonus program and assigned a company vehicle.
  • At the end of the training, you must be willing to relocate to “Anywhere USA” which is anywhere we have a territory in the US. Where you will be placed will be determined at a later date based on company needs, not personal preference.
  • GMF offers a sign-on bonus to assist with relocation expenses based on miles from Fort Worth, TX. The sign on bonus must be utilized to permanently relocate to the assigned territory.
  • This role will require overnight travel upon final relocation to an assigned territory, as well as the need to respond to dealers outside of normal business hours.
