If so, consider being the Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager for the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. Join our friendly, collaborative, and hardworking development team, reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications.  

Reporting to, and in collaboration with, the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager develops and implements integrated marketing and communications strategies, plans, content, and tools to advance the Food Bank’s strategic goals. 

Working closely with departments and organizational leaders, this role oversees content creation and the execution of the Food Bank’s annual integrated marketing and communications plan. This includes building awareness, generating external support, and inspiring engagement across key focus areas such as fundraising, volunteer engagement, and advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels. 

This role also leads strategic message development and editorial content planning for external audiences, ensuring all content is brand-aligned, equity-centered, and reflective of the Food Bank’s strategic plan and community impact. 

The Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager has two direct reports, including a Senior Social Media Specialist and a Writer & Content Specialist. This role mentors and collaborates with these team members to deliver high-quality storytelling that engages audiences and amplifies the organization’s work and impact.

The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin counties. We envision a community free of the root causes of hunger, where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support.   

Together with more than 250+ community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through a coordinated network of neighborhood food pantries, CalFresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts. We work with our community to provide food for people facing hunger today while working to end the hunger of tomorrow. What You Would Be Accountable for: 

The Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager is accountable for the following key pieces of work:  

  • Understanding the issue of food insecurity on local and national levels, including corresponding advocacy and policy-related concerns 

  • Strategic planning: in partnership with the Director, leads the development, planning, coordination, and implementation of the Food Bank's annual integrated marketing and communications plan to set the tone, determine the themes, and outline key messages underpinning major marketing and communications efforts during the fiscal year 

  • Ensuring team reports deliver creative and persuasive content to achieve strategic priorities, in support of the Food Bank’s strategic goals and identified impact areas 

  • Managing research and analytics: leading the effort to understand, interpret, publish, and communicate the organizational statistical reporting and creation of messaging for external audiences 

  • Serves as the lead content editor of the Food Bank's external publications, including the annual report, hunger report, eNews external newsletters, web blog, and content to support agency fundraising and program efforts 

  • Provides inter-departmental support across the Food Bank to ensure strategic brand marketing and communications message alignment 

  • Drives the organization’s earned and owned media strategy, including developing and cultivating strategic media contacts and relationships, elevating key fundraising initiatives, collaborating with the MarCom director in crafting opinion pieces for leadership and providing strategic counsel for senior leaders and frontline staff, and amplifying earned media message pull through across owned media channels including web content and social media 

What You Would Be Doing Right Now: 

  • Supervision: Direct management and supervision of two staff members 

  • Editorial strategy: Provide editorial guidance on development-related content, policy & advocacy initiatives on the local, state, and federal levels, and executive communications 

  • Manage the Development of comms and marketing tools: Will be responsible for strategic oversight, guidance, and assignment of various comms tools and documents, including messaging decks, reports, crisis comms planning, and annual reporting projects 

  • Operations: In partnership with the department director, and project manager, oversee the processes and systems of the department to support communications and marketing services to other teams, identifying efficiencies, resources, priorities, and vendor coordination 

What Else You Should Know: 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years of communications and/or marketing experience, preferably in a nonprofit or related organization  

  • 3+ years of direct experience supervising marketing and communications team members 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Spanish language proficiency   

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

  • Strong creative, writing, editing, storytelling, and strategic planning skills  

  • Ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple priorities  

  • Strong project management and change management skills  

  • Experience working in diverse and equity-centered environments

SALARY The position is full-time. The starting salary for this position ranges from $114,000-$120,000, with exact salary depending on experience.
