Provide day-to-day Linux/Windows system administration and troubleshooting, perform vulnerability assessments and patching, manage virtualization and storage (VMware, NetApp, MSSQL), configure firewalls (Palo Alto/ Panorama), respond to ServiceNow tickets, document configurations, and collaborate with IT teams to ensure operational stability and compliance.
We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to backfill and cover day-to-day system administration tasks while the core team focuses on a new imaging archive project. This role requires strong Linux/Windows administration skills, troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional communication. The ideal candidate is a proactive generalist who can manage diverse infrastructure tasks, triage tickets, and ensure operational stability.
Contract Length: 1+ year
Pay Rate: $70+/hour
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid, 2 days/week onsite)
Responsibilities
- Assist in security scanning and apply security controls to prevent unauthorized access.
- Provide day-to-day system administration support, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and routine updates.
- Support system and network operations, including Windows Server 2019, Linux, RedHat, VMware, MSSQL, and Cisco IOS.
- Perform vulnerability assessments using Tenable and implement necessary security patches.
- Configure and manage firewalls and security policies (Palo Alto, Panorama).
- Maintain storage and backup systems (NetApp).
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to ensure seamless integration and performance across applications and infrastructure.
- Monitor and respond to ServiceNow tickets, emails, and system alerts.
- Document system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and best practices.
- Assist with system upgrades, new software implementations, and rollouts.
- Participate in security risk assessments and compliance reviews.
Requirements
- Strong system administration and troubleshooting experience
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments (50/50 split, stronger in Linux preferred)
- Experience with ServiceNow CMDB (updating records, reports, queries)
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Experience with storage and virtualization technologies
- Ability to manage contingencies and audit application/system processes
- Self-starter with experience triaging and resolving diverse issues
Nice to Haves
- Experience configuring networking switches
- Knowledge of imaging environments (not required, but helpful)
- Exposure to multi-cloud environments and virtualization-agnostic technologies
- Background in auditing and compliance processes
- Prior experience supporting large-scale application/software rollouts
