Hello, intrepid job seeker! Pixar is seeking a talented, passionate, and curious engineer with DevOps experience to join the Data Systems Engineering team!
As a Systems Engineer, you’ll support the infrastructure and platform solutions that enable the creative force at Pixar to produce the incredible animated movies and content we are known for.
The ideal candidate will be eager to take on new challenges, optimize processes (bonus: getting to do so along hard-working, intelligent, congenial colleagues!), and find ways to build and run services in a repeatable, collaborative DevOps style – solving problems before they’re noticed and leaving systems more reliable, stable, and secure than they were found.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain and support enterprise data platforms: Kafka, ELK (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash), RDBMS, Splunk

  • Deploy, evaluate, and resolve issues with new and existing applications in our environment

  • Support related technologies on our team, including Perforce & Oracle DB

  • Perform regular maintenance tasks including application patching, updates, configuration changes, and ongoing monitoring using Puppet & Ansible

  • Ensure applications are consistently monitored, backed up, and documented

  • Investigate and provide root cause analysis for incidents

  • Define and detail standard runbooks and operating procedures

  • Share knowledge freely, assisting teammates in learning coding and systems engineering to raise the overall skill level of the team

  • Liaise between internal stakeholders and external consulting partners

  • Provide support and structure to Pixar employees as the domain expert of our data platforms

  • Learn related technologies and platforms to provide cross-team support

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong experience automating and scripting in Python or Bash

  • 5+ years of professional experience supporting mission critical data stores including installation and security best-practices, machine provisioning, and lifecycle management

  • Outstanding troubleshooting skills with data stores, operating systems, and applications

  • Proficiency with diagnostic and performance monitoring tools (Zabbix, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, etc)

  • Strong experience automating tasks via Python or other scripting tools

  • Strong interpersonal and documentation skills, and the ability & desire to excel in a team environment

  • Experience deploying/maintaining both on-prem and cloud resources via tools such as Terraform,  Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt, or similar

  • Ability and desire to learn and support new technologies

  • Software engineering skills including familiarity with git, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience or education

The hiring range for this position in Emeryville is $119,000.00 to $154,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
