The Tax Manager oversees domestic and international tax compliance, manages external partners, ensures proper filing, and supports global expansion initiatives.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s domestic and international tax compliance, planning, and accounting. This role ensures timely and accurate compliance across all jurisdictions, manages external tax partners, and supports the company's aggressive global expansion as a private SaaS provider.
Base salary: $100,000 - $120,000
Key Responsibilities:
- VAT/GST/Sales Tax: Oversee and manage the end-to-end global indirect tax compliance process, including Sales Tax, VAT, and GST, ensuring proper filing and payment.
- Act as the primary internal contact for external advisors responsible for compliance execution, focusing on process integrity and data accuracy.
- Manage and optimize the indirect tax engine (e.g., Avalara) configuration to correctly apply tax rules to new SaaS products, services, and expanding geographies.
- Oversee local and city tax compliance and reporting obligations, ensuring all returns are filed accurately and on time through external partners.
U.S. Direct Tax Compliance & Reporting:
- Manage the preparation and review of the U.S. federal (Form 1120) and all multi-state income tax returns with external advisor, coordinating inputs from the accounting and finance teams.
- Manage estimated tax payments and extension filings to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of tax work papers to support all federal and state filings.
International Tax & Transfer Pricing:
- Serve as the primary internal manager for the company’s global transfer pricing policies and documentation. Coordinate with external advisors to ensure local country documentation is timely completed and compliant with OECD/local regulations.
- Manage and track global withholding tax obligations, ensuring proper documentation, remittance, and reporting to foreign authorities.
- Monitor international tax developments and assess the impact on the company’s structure, reporting, and effective tax rate.
Audit, Controversy, and Risk Management:
- Lead the response and management of all tax-related notices, inquiries, and audits from domestic (IRS, state) and international tax agencies.
- Coordinate necessary information and analysis for tax examinations, working closely with external advisors and legal counsel.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to mitigate tax compliance and reporting risks.
Tax Planning and Projects:
- Identify, research, and analyze tax planning opportunities to minimize global cash tax expense and optimize the worldwide effective tax rate.
- Support business initiatives and transactions by providing proactive tax advice and ensuring compliance integration.
- Research complex tax issues and document conclusions in clear, concise technical memos.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in tax compliance, accounting, or public accounting (Big 4 or equivalent experience a plus).
- Familiarity with U.S. federal and state income tax principles and indirect tax.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Avalara or other tax software preferred. Experience with NetSuite preferred.
