🖊️ About the Role:
Helium Mobile is seeking a highly skilled Tax Manager with 5-7 years of experience in telecommunications taxes to join our team. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations specific to the telecommunications industry. This role requires a deep understanding of telecom tax laws, USF contributions, e911 fees, and sales & use tax to support accurate reporting and tax strategy implementation.
💡 What You’ll Do:
- Work with tax vendors (Avalara) to prepare and file federal, state, and local telecom tax returns, including USF, e911, sales & use tax, excise tax, and others.
- Conduct tax research and stay up to date on telecom tax regulations, ensuring compliance with changing laws.
- Assist in tax audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory authorities.
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure accurate tax reporting in financial statements.
- Work closely with finance, accounting, and legal teams to develop efficient tax strategies.
- Monitor and validate tax calculations for customer invoices, including ZIP code-based e911 fee assessments.
- Support the implementation of tax automation tools and software.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and process improvements.
- Complete month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Ad-hoc accounting/tax projects as needed
☑️ What Makes You The Perfect Fit:
- Required Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in telecom tax compliance, reporting, and research
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Public accounting experience
- Ideal Qualifications
- Strong practical knowledge of the FCC, state, and local telecom tax regulations, including USF, e911, and sales & use tax.
- Experience working with telecommunications tax engines and tax filing vendors (i.e. Avalara).
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and FASB codification and pronouncements, including internal control framework development.
- Proficiency in Excel. Working knowledge of NetSuite.
- Detail-oriented mindset with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams.
- Accounting experience at a big four accounting or national firm.
- CPA - strongly preferred. Master of Taxation degree - preferred.
💸 Compensation:
- Salary
- The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
- Pay varies depending on location, based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The salary pay scales for the target experience and target skill set, by US location, are:
- Tier 1 (San Francisco / New York City): $122K - $166K
- Tier 2 (All other US locations): $110K - $145K
