Position Title: Teaching Assistant, School of Undergraduate Studies                           

Department Name: School of Undergraduate Studies

Position Reports To: Associate Dean, School of Undergraduate Studies

FLSA STATUS:  Hourly, Non-exempt

Hourly Rate:  $19.18

Benefits: Limited University's benefits

 

Days & Hours: Variable weekly schedule to be established by supervisor. Flexible schedule may require evening and weekend hours during peak periods.

 

BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:

All teaching assistants are chosen directly by faculty members. Individual faculty members are responsible for publicizing any available teaching assistant positions for their course(s). Golden Gate University School of Undergraduate Studies maintains a pool of qualified individuals who would like to provide administrative or academic support as a Teaching Assistant. At this time there may not be an immediate vacancy, but candidates may provide their application to this posting.

Serve as teaching assistant for lower- or upper-division courses in the School of Undergraduate Studies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work closely with students as defined by the professor
  • Assist with grading of written and other assignments, including providing substantive feedback on student work
  • Assist with moderation of synchronous and/or asynchronous class discussion, including live class sessions (online/in-person/hybrid) and/or online discussion forums
  • Attend class meetings, conduct review sessions, explain model questions and answers, and meet with individuals or small groups of students during designated office hours; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education requirement:
    • BS, BA, Master’s, or other relevant degree
  • Skills and abilities:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Acute analytic and research skills
    • Initiative and openness to evolving responsibilities and work environments
    • Sound command of the academic subject and strong attention to detail.
