Voleon is a technology company that applies state-of-the-art AI and machine learning techniques to real-world problems in finance. For nearly two decades, we have led our industry and worked at the frontier of applying AI/ML to investment management. We have become a multibillion-dollar asset manager, and we have ambitious goals for the future.

Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals. The people who shape our company come from other backgrounds, including concert music performances, humanitarian aid, opera singing, sports writing, and BMX racing. You will be part of a team that loves to succeed together.

In addition to our enriching and collegial working environment, we offer highly competitive compensation and benefits packages, technology talks by our experts, a beautiful modern office, daily catered lunches, and more.

As Technical Manager, Developer Experience, you will lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for the core development platform that powers software development across the Voleon technology organization. Your team will build and operate the systems that enable engineers to build, test, deploy, and maintain software quickly, reliably, and consistently across the company. These systems form the foundation of the engineering workflow and include build systems, CI/CD infrastructure, testing frameworks, developer tooling, and deployment automation.

Your team will be responsible for delivering a highly reliable and performant development platform that supports engineers across research, infrastructure, and product development. You will ensure that development workflows are fast, scalable, and dependable, enabling engineers to move quickly while maintaining strong standards for reliability, code quality, and security. You will bring exceptional attention to detail to your work, ensuring that the build and deployment ecosystem operates with high availability, strong observability, and consistent performance across the engineering organization.

You will play a central role in improving engineering velocity across the firm by reducing friction in the software development lifecycle. Your team will design and evolve the infrastructure that supports the build → test → deploy pipeline, standardize development workflows, and modernize core development tooling. Through this work, your organization will help ensure that engineers can focus on delivering product and research value rather than managing development infrastructure.

You will work closely with the Director of Software Platform and other engineering leaders to define and execute the roadmap for the company’s development platform. You will grow and scale the DevEx team according to a roadmap that you develop and own, ensuring accountable and reliable delivery of key platform improvements. You will develop engineers on your team to take ownership of critical platform systems and drive continuous improvement across the development ecosystem.

You will collaborate closely with peers across engineering, data infrastructure, and research to understand evolving development needs and ensure the platform supports a wide range of engineering workflows. You will balance competing priorities and make thoughtful tradeoffs that improve developer productivity, system reliability, and the long-term scalability of the engineering platform.

Your Team

We look for brilliant people with a passion for solving complex engineering problems through strong technical fundamentals and thoughtful system design. You’ll work in a collaborative environment that encourages creative thinking, experimentation, and pragmatic implementation.

You’ll lead a team responsible for building and operating the core development platform used by engineers across the company. Your team will develop and maintain the systems that support the software development lifecycle — including build infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and developer tooling.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers recruited from leading technology companies and top university programs. Your team will collaborate closely with engineering, infrastructure, and research teams to ensure that the development platform enables fast, reliable, and scalable software development across the organization.

  • Mentor and grow individual contributors to continuously raise the technical bar of the team
  • Build and operate the systems that power the software development lifecycle, including build systems, CI/CD infrastructure, testing frameworks, and deployment automation
  • Improve engineering productivity by reducing friction in the build, test, and deployment process
  • Ensure the development platform is highly reliable, observable, and scalable as the organization grows
  • Partner with infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams to ensure development systems integrate seamlessly with production environments
  • Drive continuous improvement of developer tooling, development workflows, and platform capabilities across the organization

Requirements

  • Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams and mentoring senior engineers
  • Proven ability to attract, hire, and retain exceptional engineering talent
  • Strong programming experience in one or more modern languages such as Python, Go, C++, or similar
  • Experience building or operating large-scale developer platforms, build systems, CI/CD infrastructure, or internal engineering tooling
  • Experience operating critical systems with high reliability and availability requirements
  • Knowledge of best practices for scalable system design, reliability engineering, and operational excellence
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including build systems, testing infrastructure, and deployment automation
  • Ability to dive deep into technical details while maintaining a strategic view of platform architecture
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and research organizations
