We’re all about the Pro, and dedicate our days to helping them streamline operations, scale their businesses, and—ultimately—save time so they can be with their families and live well.

While our headquarters are based in Denver, Colorado, our team spans the globe, with teammates across Brazil, Poland, the Philippines, Mexico, and beyond. We care deeply about our customers and foster a culture where our company, people and Pros grow and succeed together—no matter where they’re based. Leadership is as focused on growing team members’ careers as they expect their teams to be on creating solutions for Pros.

We also offer:

  • A generous benefits program that supports the whole you with medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k)
  • Paid holidays and flexible, take-it-as-you-need-it paid time off
  • Monthly tech reimbursements
  • A culture built on innovation that values big ideas, no matter where they come from
  • Equity in a rapidly growing startup backed by top-tier VCs

Role Overview:

As a Product Manager II, Search Platform, you are the architect of the infrastructure that powers search experiences across HCP. This is a platform role: your primary customers are internal domain teams, and your impact is measured by how effectively they can build, ship, and evolve high-quality search experiences. You hold two perspectives simultaneously: building for an elite developer experience without losing the thread back to Pro outcomes. You set the long-term vision for the search infrastructure that powers HCP - defining how it scales, evolves, and enables product teams to deliver high-quality search experiences.

Our team is passionate, empathetic, hard working, and above all else focused on improving the lives of our service professionals (our Pros). Our success is their success.

What you do each day:

  • Define the long-term vision for search infrastructure at HCP
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate product velocity to meet domain teams' needs
  • Make decisions about infrastructure and internal builds that will have the most direct impacts on our Pros and our business
  • Bring an AI-first mindset to your work - using AI tools to compress discovery, spec writing, and cross-functional coordination so the team spends more time building and less time syncing
  • Analyze performance, latency, and search quality to proactively surface risks and evaluate opportunities to improve search across the platform
  • Own and communicate the Search Platform roadmap, balancing reliability with high-leverage capabilities
  • Define and evolve the contracts between the platform and domain teams (i.e. schemas, field standards, APIs...)
  • Improve workflows for schema changes and re-indexing to reduce friction and risk
  • Partner with engineering on index design, data pipelines, search APIs, and observability
  • Improve abstraction layers so domain teams can build search experiences without needing deep infrastructure expertise
  • Establish feedback loops with domain teams to continuously improve developer experience and platform usability

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of product management experience, specifically with platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products
  • Practical experience working with product management for platforms and ideally search systems (i.e. OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or similar...)
  • Experience defining APIs, SDKs, or internal platform contracts consumed by other teams
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define and monitor platform health and performance metrics
  • SaaS product experience, ideally supporting business workflows where search is mission-critical
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate product development, improve engineering collaboration, and ship higher-quality outcomes faster
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

What will help you succeed:

  • Genuine motivation to champion for the Search Platform team direct customers (i.e., internal product/engineering teams)
  • Experience working with hybrid search architectures that combine traditional keyword/vector search with AI or LLM-based retrieval (e.g. RAG, semantic search, re-ranking)
  • Familiarity with applied ML or LLM integration patterns in product environments
  • Ability to operate strategically while unblocking tactical infrastructure issues
  • Clear, persuasive communication style that makes complex infrastructure tradeoffs legible to stakeholders
  • Genuine care for end-customer outcomes and connecting platform investments to Pro workflows
  • Track record of delivering outcomes in fast-paced environments

Location Dependent Information

This role is open to candidates and the expected salary range for this role is $115,000-$135,000. The specific salary for the successful candidate will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location. This role is also eligible to participate in Housecall Pro’s equity plan and the following benefits: health care insurance (medical, dental, vision, disability), employee assistance program, 401(K), flexible time off, paid parental leave, tech reimbursement, and other company benefits. What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
