About the Job

The Technical Product Manager will own the definition, roadmap, and lifecycle management of utility-scale BESS products. This role bridges engineering, compliance, and market requirements to deliver commercially viable systems that meet performance, safety, and cost targets. The Technical Product Manager translates standards, customer needs, and market rules into product requirements and ensures that the product platform supports both near-term projects and long-term competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Definition & Roadmap

  • Define and maintain product-level requirements (power, energy, round-trip efficiency, availability, auxiliary load, safety ratings).
  • Contribute to development of product roadmap aligned with market drivers (e.g., capacity markets, ancillary services, PTC/ITC incentives, interconnection rules).
  • Benchmark competitor offerings and emerging chemistries.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Work with cell, module, and system engineering teams to translate functional requirements into design specifications.
  • Partner with compliance and certification teams to align with UL 1973, UL 9540, IEC 62619, NFPA 855, IEEE 2800, and regional grid codes.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, and service teams to ensure scalability and maintainability.

Market & Customer Interface

  • Translate ISO/RTO market participation rules into product capabilities (e.g., duration requirements, ramp rates, PQ curves, reactive power support).
  • Support project engineering by providing product specifications, performance curves, and financial modeling inputs (LCOS, IRR, capacity payments).
  • Act as subject matter expert with customers, regulators, and EPC partners.

Lifecycle Management

  • Track fleet performance data and feed lessons learned into next-generation designs.
  • Define and manage product change processes balancing cost, compliance, and performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years in product management, applications engineering, or systems engineering in energy storage, power electronics, or utility-scale generation.
  • Strong knowledge of battery and power system technologies and inverter architectures.
  • Familiarity with UL, IEC, IEEE, and NFPA standards governing BESS.
  • Experience with grid interconnection and ISO/RTO participation requirements.
  • Proven ability to develop technical requirements documents and lead cross-functional execution.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in techno-economic modeling (LCOS, TCO, IRR).
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment logistics, site civil requirements, and enclosure design.
  • Understanding of warranty structures and performance guarantees for storage products.
  • Familiarity with global storage markets beyond North America.

Location and Travel

  • Based in Burlingame CA
  • Up to 25% travel
