The Technical Product Owner (Product Manager I) supports the delivery of technology products and platform capabilities by translating business needs, customer priorities, and technical requirements into clear, actionable work for delivery teams. This role requires strong knowledge of application integration, platform services, and technical development concepts to help shape product requirements, manage backlogs, prioritize features, and ensure solutions are delivered with quality, reliability, and measurable business value.
This position works closely with Functional Product Management, Application Development, Platform Engineering, Security, Operations, and business stakeholders to define scope, manage dependencies, remove blockers, and communicate progress. The Technical Product Owner helps guide agile planning and execution, ensures work meets functional and technical expectations, and uses product and delivery metrics to drive continuous improvement.
This role primarily supports internal platform products and engineering capabilities rather than customer-facing applications.
- Own delivery of assigned product features and technology outcomes from planning through implementation for platform services, APIs, cloud platforms, developer enablement solutions, and shared engineering capabilities.
- Manage day-to-day requirements, backlog items, projects, and special features in partnership with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Work closely with Application Development, Platform Engineering, Security, Technology, Finance, Legal, and business teams to define and deliver solutions.
- Apply required knowledge of application integration, platform capabilities, and technical development to shape requirements, priorities, and delivery decisions.
- Translate customer needs, business goals, technical inputs, analytics, and market insights into clear product requirements and executable roadmaps.
- Lead feature and dependency prioritization, PI planning, sprint planning, and backlog refinement at the team level.
- Set iteration goals and confirm outcomes meet functional, non-functional, and technical expectations.
- Coordinate effective daily stand-ups, sprint ceremonies, retrospectives, and system demos with delivery teams.
- Create, refine, and prioritize user stories and tasks that meet user needs, technical integrity, and definition of ready standards.
- Ensure required product artifacts are complete and stories/features meet definition of done criteria.
- Identify dependencies, risks, and delivery blockers, and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- Use product and delivery metrics to measure success, inform decisions, and drive continuous improvement.
- 2+ years of experience in product management supporting software engineering, platform engineering, cloud platform, API, developer platform, infrastructure, or enterprise technology products.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven track record of successful product launches and driving business growth.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Experience with agile methodologies and a deep understanding of software development lifecycles.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in project management tools and techniques, with a focus on efficient resource allocation.
- Strong business acumen and a customer-centric mindset, with an eye for market trends and user needs.
- Willingness to stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
Base Pay Information
The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental’s assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. Pay Grade 21 $81,265.00 - $176,073 Nationally, actual pay may vary.
