Objective
Support the development and national rollout of a facilities assessment program in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The writer will provide structured documentation for planning, execution, and training materials, with a focus on outlining technical processes and delivering traceable documentation aligned with government and software development standards.
Profile Overview
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented technical writer with experience documenting complex software and infrastructure programs. This role supports the national rollout of a new facilities assessment software platform, including program planning, technical design documentation, and training development. A background in assessment creation, especially for building environments or in collaboration with architects/engineers, is highly desirable.
Scope
- Commitment: 10 hours/week
- Duration: 12 months (Retainer)
Responsibilities
- Draft and maintain a requirements traceability matrix with a test plan
- Create detailed design documentation in collaboration with software and design teams
- Develop a phased rollout plan for the facilities assessment program
- Outline policies, procedures, and approaches for national deployment
- Provide optional training material development (e.g., video or online course)
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and software teams to ensure accuracy
- Translate complex technical processes into accessible written content
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience writing technical documentation for software or infrastructure programs
- Background in assessment development (preferably facilities-related)
- Ability to work cross-functionally with software developers, designers, and domain experts
- Familiarity with test planning and traceability documentation
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience with federal or government contracts is a plus but not required
