Build the data infrastructure for robots operating in the real world.

Robotics is moving from research labs into production across factories, warehouses, vehicles, and field deployments. When robots fail, behave unexpectedly, or need to be improved, engineers rely on data to understand what actually happened.

At Foxglove, we build the observability, visualization, and data infrastructure that makes that possible. Our tools are used by robotics and autonomous systems teams to ingest, store, query, replay, and analyze massive volumes of multimodal sensor data from live systems and from production fleets.

About the role

We’re hiring a Technical Writer to own end-to-end product documentation for Foxglove’s developer tools, including core product docs, guides, API references, tutorials, and changelogs. This role will drive clarity, consistency, and discoverability across all user-facing technical content while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Developer Experience. You will ensure Foxglove’s documentation scales with the complexity of modern autonomous systems and supports fast, confident adoption of our tools.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the information architecture, writing, editing, and maintenance of all product documentation across Visualization, Data Platform, and Fleet.

  • Develop clear, accurate, and concise reference material for APIs, SDKs, MCAP, and other developer-facing surfaces.

  • Own the release-note and changelog process end-to-end, ensuring changes are communicated in a timely, consistent way that anticipates user impact.

  • Partner with product managers and engineers to understand upcoming features, define documentation requirements, and produce content that accelerates onboarding and reduces support load.

  • Build and evolve writing standards, terminology, and style guidelines to ensure coherence across the ecosystem.

  • Create conceptual guides, architecture overviews, troubleshooting workflows, and hands-on tutorials to help developers succeed across varied use cases.

  • Contribute to technical blog posts, sample projects, demo scripts, and other developer-evangelism assets as needed.

  • Continuously audit and improve documentation based on user feedback, analytics, and support insights.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong technical writing foundation with experience documenting complex developer tools, robotics systems, distributed data platforms, or similar technical domains.

  • Ability to translate messy internal understanding into crisp, structured, user-oriented content.

  • Proficiency reading and reasoning about code (C++, Python, TypeScript, ROS tooling, or similar).

  • Experience designing documentation IA, authoring workflows, and versioning practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with engineering and product teams in fast-moving environments.

  • Comfortable working across a broad range- from deep technical references to high-level conceptual guides.

  • Excellent editorial judgment and attention to detail.

Bonus points for

  • Background in robotics, simulation, autonomy, or physical AI systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, observability, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment environments.

  • Experience with ROS/ROS 2, robotics data pipelines, visualization tooling, or time-series data formats such as MCAP.

  • Experience contributing to developer relations, community engagement, or conference/tutorial content.

What we offer

  • Competitive equity in a Series B company

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance (100% for employees, 75% for dependents)

  • 401(k) with up to 4% match

  • 4 weeks vacation, plus holidays and winter break

  • $300/month commuter benefit

  • Company offsites 1–2 times per year

Why Join Us
  • Impact: Own growth at a fast-growing, high-leverage moment for the company.

  • Mission: Accelerate the development of the next generation of robotics and embodied AI.

  • Team: Work with world-class engineers, designers, and researchers passionate about open-source and developer tools.

  • Ownership: Drive initiatives end-to-end, with high autonomy and visibility.
