The Test Engineering Lead will oversee the design and execution of test systems for photonics devices, ensuring quality and performance through collaboration and advanced testing methodologies.
About Us:
nEye Systems is an optical switch startup founded in 2020 to revolutionize the future of data centers. nEye’s MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches (OCS) eliminate critical bottlenecks in AI processing by enabling direct optical connections among thousands of GPUs and memory units. The company's SuperSwitch is an ultra-low power consumption, high radix, compact chip-scale design, offering hyperscale data centers enhanced performance, efficiency, and scalability.
Job Overview:
As a Test Engineering Lead at nEye Systems, you will drive the strategic design, development, and execution of test procedures and systems that ensure the quality and performance of our Si photonics MEMS devices and components. In this high-impact role, you will serve as a key technical leader in test development, working closely with Si Photonics designers, System and Software Engineers, and MEMS/Process Engineers to create robust testing protocols, troubleshoot issues, and advance photonics product performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Test System Development: Design and develop advanced test systems and procedures for evaluating performance and reliability of photonics devices and components
- Test Automation: Develop and implement automated testing solutions to improve test efficiency, consistency, and scalability
- Optical Testing: Conduct precise optical measurements to assess parameters such as power, wavelength, and signal integrity
- Device Characterization: Perform detailed characterization of photonics devices under various conditions to assess behavior and performance
- Data Analysis: Analyze test data, identify trends or anomalies, and generate clear reports to inform design and product decisions
- Technical Leadership: Lead test engineering initiatives, ensuring timely completion of milestones and deliverables across development and production
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, software, systems, and process engineering teams to understand testing requirements, support design improvements, and resolve technical challenges
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to test setups, instrumentation, or device performance
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of test procedures, outcomes, and changes to protocols
- Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing improvements in testing methodologies and contribute to innovations in photonics test engineering
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Photonics, Optics, or a related field
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in test engineering for photonics or related hardware systems
- Deep knowledge of photonics and optical testing methodologies
- Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor peers or junior engineers
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Proficiency with optical and electrical test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, and network analyzers
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with the design and fabrication of MEMS structures and optoelectronic devices
- Familiarity with photonics industry standards and best practices for testing
- Experience with reliability testing, environmental stress screening, and failure analysis
- Background in optical packaging, co-packaged optics, and hybrid bonding
- Experience in designing or testing devices with both micro- and nano-scale features
Benefits & Perks:
- Opportunity to join a small, well-funded start-up company that is doing pioneering work in optical switches
- Competitive salary and equity package, including early-stage company stock options
- 401k
- Full healthcare coverage: medical, dental, and vision
- Fitness center access
