At Atlassian, we are seeking a skilled Threat Detection Engineer to join our team in the US. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge threat detection mechanisms and contribute to the security posture of our infrastructure by building sophisticated threat detection mechanisms to identify and alert on adversarial and high-risk behaviors present in Atlassian infrastructure and collaborate with partner teams like Incident Response and Threat Intelligence to establish meaningful security alerts.

Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $154,500 - $206,000
Zone B: $139,100 - $185,400
Zone C: $128,300 - $171,000
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

- Develop advanced threat detection mechanisms that can effectively identify and raise alerts for any adversarial or high-risk behaviors within the company's systems.
- Continuous improvement and fine-tuning of detection systems to effectively adapt to new and emerging cyber threats. This involves staying abreast of the latest threat landscape and ensuring that the detection systems are agile and responsive to evolving security challenges.
- Monitor and enhance critical detection systems to ensure their reliability and effectiveness in delivering robust detection capabilities. This involves proactive maintenance and optimization to uphold the integrity and performance of these systems.
- Collaborate with partner teams such as Incident Response and Threat Intelligence is to establish and maintain meaningful security alerts. Work closely with these teams to ensure security alerts are relevant, actionable, and aligned with the overall security strategy.
- Perform threat hunting activities to proactively identify and mitigate new and emerging threats within Atlassian's systems. Leverage detection techniques and tools to stay ahead of potential security risks.
- Automate common security operational tasks, aiming to streamline and optimize routine security activities. This involves leveraging automation tools and techniques to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Develop tools, systems, and programs to enhance and fortify Atlassian's overall security posture. This includes contributing to the creation of innovative solutions to bolster the company's security defenses.
- Remain informed about the latest security trends, emerging threats, and evolving technologies to ensure that Atlassian is well-prepared to adapt to new security challenges. This includes continuous learning and staying abreast of industry developments to inform the company's security strategy.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in Security Operations roles and 1 year experience in Detection Engineering role.
- Experience building threat detection mechanisms in common log analysis platforms (eg. Splunk)
- Experience using common programming languages to build automation.
- Experience performing threat hunting
- Experience using security detection technologies and systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, EDR, and authentication systems.
- Experience with cloud technologies including AWS and network protocols.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to effectively identify and resolve problems.
