Summary

The Transactions BD & Marketing Director, working in collaboration with and in support of the firm’s strategic initiatives, functions as a critical leadership role on the Marketing and Business Development Team, overseeing BD and marketing strategy across the firm’s transactional practices. Collaborates closely with practice and sector leadership to enhance awareness of the firm's Transactions capabilities and to drive new business opportunities.  Focuses on elevating the firm’s market profile and client relationships in these practice areas through strategic initiatives, targeted client engagement, and integrated marketing campaigns.
Location

This position can sit in our Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Northern Virginia, San Diego, San Francisco, or Washington DC office and offers a hybrid work schedule.
 
Responsibilities
 

  • Understands key business issues our clients are facing, market dynamics and competitive strategies.

  • Together with Transactions practice, BD team members, develops and executes go-to-market plans aligned with the firm’s Transactions strategy, focusing on priority client sectors and opportunities in collaboration with practice group and sector leaders.

  • Manages client-centric and data-driven, integrated marketing and business development campaigns that deliver results against strategic priorities for the Transactions practices.

  • Plans and executes high-impact events, conferences, and sponsorships to raise the external profile of the firm’s Transactions practices, in coordination with firm-wide marketing functions (brand, PR, digital, etc.) to ensure integrated messaging.

  • Oversees the development of tailored pitches, RFP responses, and client-facing marketing materials that effectively communicate the firm’s Transactions experience and value proposition, ensuring a client-centric approach in all proposals.

  • Champions internal marketing infrastructure projects (e.g., designing and implementing an experience collection process and other best practices) to improve how the Transactions team captures and leverages deal experience and client successes.       

  • Together with the lateral integration team, supports the onboarding and integration of key laterals and their client base.

  • Manages marketing budgets and sponsorship investments for Transactions-related initiatives, ensuring resources are aligned with firm and practice group priorities and deliver a strong ROI.   

  • Measures and tracks results of marketing programs and reports on ROI.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills   

Prior experience in a large law firm environment (either as a practicing lawyer or in a senior marketing/BD role) is highly beneficial. Must have experience and ability to plan strategically, execute tactically and have a client service focus. Must have a strong understanding of the business environment in key industry sectors relevant to transactional practices, as well as the competitive landscape. Possesses the ability to analyze data and use multiple sources of information to develop solutions and recommendations. Must be a self-starter and leader with accomplished critical thinking skills and a thorough understanding of the firm’s value proposition, particularly in transactional practices. Must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior partners and practice group leaders, building consensus and aligning marketing/BD initiatives with practice goals. Must have excellent communication and data analysis skills, as well as strong writing and presentation skills. Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining positive, collaborative working relationships. Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing high-performing teams. Proficiency with MS Office products to include Word/Excel/Power Point.
 

Minimum Education            

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or related field required.  
     

Preferred Education            

  • Master’s Degree. 
     

Certificates   

  • JD also preferred.
     

Minimum Years of Experience  

  • 10+ years’ experience in marketing/business development in a professional services environment.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.    

Work Environment    

The individual selected for this position may have the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement comprised of remote and in-office work, the requirement for which will be determined in coordination with the hiring manager or supervisor and may be modified in the firm’s discretion in the future.

The firm’s expected hiring range for this position is $218,438 - $353,889 per year depending on the candidate’s geographic market location.
 

The compensation offered for employment will also be dependent on other factors including the candidate’s experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
