Job Description

TTAD Group leader / Job leader: AI research in Autonomy and Knowledge Capture

Hybrid- San Jose, CA office 3/2

Tokyo Electron (TEL) is a leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. We make equipment for key parts of the manufacturing process in the world’s largest foundries. TEL Technology AI and Design Inc is our Silicon Valley AI lab, where we do groundbreaking, long-term research and technology development in AI for semiconductor equipment. One of our projects relates to autonomous operation of semiconductor equipment. This project has been ongoing for several years and is in the prototype stage. We are looking for an experienced engineer who can lead a small team for the next phase of this project. The technologies used include embedded control, complex software/hardware systems,
autonomy/planning, semantic and symbolic knowledge capture from unstructured data, transfer learning, and advanced UI design.

This position will be filled as Principal Engineer (technical career track) or Sr Manager (management career track) level depending on the candidate’s experience and career interests.

• Interested in learning, e.g. a complex application domain, new programming languages
• Willing and able to travel overseas (east Asia) 1-3 times per year
• Willing and able to collaborate with colleagues in east Asia some evenings

Role Requirements
• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience (such as computer science/AI research,
software engineering, machine learning, scheduling and planning, or knowledge
representation)
• 4+ years of experience with complex hardware + software systems
• 2+ years of small-group leadership experience
• Expertise in leading techniques for semantic capture, search, and embedding spaces
• PhD or MSc in Computer Science or adjacent areas, or BSc with 10+ years of
AI/ML/Comp Sci research excellence required

• Lead and inspire a highly talented team
• Establish and manage project roadmap with stakeholders in TTAD and TEL Group
• Hands-on contribute to development of software modules
• Embrace and contribute to our AI-assisted coding best practices
