The RoleThe Finance Team supports and empowers Palantirians through day-to-day operations and creative problem-solving. The US Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for supporting the company’s US indirect tax function across a dynamic multi-state business environment. This role requires a strong analytical mindset and technical background with the ability to navigate complex and evolving tax matters with a practical business-oriented approach. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, solutions driven and comfortable working cross functionally to support accurate compliance, effective risk management and scalable tax processes.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as a key indirect tax advisor to internal business partners, providing clear, well-reasoned guidance on complex sales and use tax matters across multiple jurisdictions.
- Analyze and interpret state and local tax laws, regulations, and administrative guidance to form defensible positions in complex areas, including SaaS, digital products, and evolving tax frameworks.
- Exercise sound judgment in gray areas of tax law by evaluating available guidance and evidence to support consistent and audit-ready positions.
- Review externally prepared sales and use tax returns in detail, focusing on numerical accuracy and the reasonableness of the overall position.
- Prepare and maintain sales tax account reconciliations to ensure accurate balance sheet reporting.
- Manage US indirect tax compliance activities including business license tax, gross receipts tax, property tax and related state and local indirect tax filings.
- Identify systemic issues, risk areas, and control gaps by connecting data across reports, systems, and filings.
- Lead and manage state and local sales and use tax audits from end-to-end, including direct interaction with auditors, negotiation of findings, and resolution of disputes.
- Develop and defend audit positions by clearly articulating technical tax rationale and supporting documentation.
- Extend and optimize existing OneSource tax engine configuration to support accurate use tax calculation and compliance workflows.
- Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, AP, and Procurement, serving as an internal resource for indirect tax questions across business processes.

What We Require
- Strong technical foundation in US indirect tax within complex multi-state environments.
- Ability to apply sound judgement and think critically in ambiguous or evolving tax situations.
- Hands-on experience with ONESOURCE and NetSuite strongly preferred.
- Experience reviewing sales and use tax returns in detail, including evaluation of accuracy and reasonableness of position taken.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to identify issues beyond transactional accuracy.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, accounting and time management skills with the ability to drive project to completion independently.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in indirect tax.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Salary
The salary range for this position is estimated to be $85,000 - $140,000/year. Total compensation for this position may also include Restricted Stock units, sign-on bonus and other potential future incentives. Further note that total compensation for this position will be determined by each individual’s relevant qualifications, work experience, skills, and other factors. This estimate excludes the value of any potential sign-on bonus; the value of any benefits offered; and the potential future value of any long-term incentives.
