About Volga Partners & The Opportunity
Volga Partners is a U.S.-based company specializing in Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, catering to top technology giants and multinational corporations. We offer a spectrum of services including IT, business process outsourcing, advanced professional services, and crowdsourcing in both established and emerging markets.

Our client, a leader in AI development, is seeking qualified candidates for an ongoing project focused on refining AI legal writing capabilities. We are looking for independent contractors interested in freelance, task-based work with a consistent workflow.

About the Role
We are seeking experienced US Legal Experts with a strong paralegal background to work as 1099 independent contractors. In this role, you will leverage your legal expertise to evaluate and improve the writing quality of advanced AI models trained on legal content.

You will analyze AI-generated responses to legal prompts, compare outputs from different language models, and provide structured feedback based on professional legal writing standards. This is a unique opportunity to apply your legal eye for detail to the cutting-edge field of artificial intelligence.

Key Responsibilities
As a 1099 Contractor for this project, you will:

  • Review & Evaluate: Assess AI-generated legal documents, briefs, and responses for accuracy, clarity, and stylistic quality.
  • Compare Outputs: Analyze responses from multiple AI models against one another to determine which best adheres to US legal writing conventions.
  • Apply Legal Standards: Evaluate content based on critical legal writing dimensions, including:
  • Terminological Precision: Correct usage of legal jargon and defined terms.
  • Syntactic Accuracy: Clarity of sentence structure to ensure proper legal interpretation.
  • Formal Tone: Appropriate use of legal voice and passive constructions where necessary.
  • Structural Coherence: Logical flow of legal reasoning and argumentation.
  • Perform Structured Assessments: Complete True/False evaluations and ranking tasks based on defined rubrics.
  • Provide Expert Insight: Identify gaps in AI writing quality and help refine the criteria used to train the models.

Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: Proven experience as a Paralegal or Legal Expert specializing in US law.
  • Legal Knowledge: Deep understanding of the US legal system, legal terminology, and documentation standards (contracts, briefs, regulatory texts).
  • Document Skills: Strong background in document review, legal research, or compliance drafting.
  • Analytical Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to assess nuanced differences in writing quality.
  • Tech Comfort: Ability to work independently on a web-based evaluation platform.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Paralegal certification or a degree in Legal Studies.
  • Experience developing internal style guides, rubrics, or quality assurance standards.
  • Familiarity with legal drafting conventions across different US jurisdictions.

Project Details (1099 Contract Specifics)

  • Engagement Type: This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You will be responsible for your own taxes and benefits.
  • Work Schedule: While the role is remote, candidates must be available to work during IST (Indian Standard Time) business hours to collaborate with the project team and ensure consistent workflow.
  • Workload: The project begins with a pilot phase (approx. 30 evaluation questions). High-performing contractors will have the opportunity to scale to larger batches of work on an ongoing basis.
  • Platform: All work is conducted through a dedicated, user-friendly evaluation portal.
  • Compensation: Paid on a per-task or hourly basis (rates competitive with legal document review projects).

Please read the additional requirements thoroughly before applying:

  • Must have own device (laptop/device).
  • Having access to good Wi-Fi connection during working hours.
  • This role is a 1099 independent contractor position. Please note that this classification may vary based on your location and local regulations. We encourage applicants outside of the US to familiarize themselves with their country's tax laws and regulations regarding independent contracting. For most candidates outside of the US, a W-8 BEN form is provided.

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements:

All global contractors will be onboarded through our platform, Gusto, to ensure alignment with compliance standards. Successful completion of onboarding is required to begin work, which includes submitting the necessary documentation within the specified timeline. Candidates should be prepared to provide accurate and compliant documents according to the requirements of their region.

Compensation starting in United States only: USD $35 - $40 PER TASK, regardless of time required for completioon
