About the role

Job Type: Contract Opportunity (3-6 month contract)

Chartis is seeking an experienced UX Designer for a 3–6 month contract engagement. In this role, you will shape intuitive, user-centred experiences for our clients’ digital products and services, working closely with product managers, engineers, strategists, and fellow designers to align user needs with business outcomes.

You’ll be comfortable operating in ambiguous problem spaces, and helping teams move from abstract ideas and open questions to clear, actionable design direction. This includes defining experience strategy and translating it into high-quality deliverables such as complex workflows, user journeys, wireframes, interaction models, UI designs, and prototypes.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong craft with strategic thinking: detail-oriented, confident working with technical teams, able to use research and data to inform decisions, and comfortable presenting and defending design recommendations with client stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • User Research:
    • Assist in conducting user research through methods such as interviews, workshops, and usability testing.
    • Analyze and synthesize user feedback to inform design decisions.
    • Develop user personas, journey maps, and other documentation to communicate research findings.
  • Information Architecture:
    • Create site maps, wireframes, and prototypes to define the structure and flow of the product.
    • Organize information in a way that is easy for users to navigate and understand.
  • Interaction Design:
    • Design user interfaces that are both functional and visually appealing.
    • Develop interactive prototypes to test and iterate on design concepts.
    • Collaborate with developers to ensure design fidelity during implementation.
  • UI Design:
    • Maintain and contribute to design systems to ensure visual consistency and scalability across platforms and products.
    • Create original layouts and UI components based on brand style guides.
  • Usability Testing:
    •  Assist in planning and conducting usability tests to evaluate the effectiveness of designs.
    •  Identify usability issues and recommend improvements.
    •  Iterate on designs based on user feedback and testing results.
  • Documentation:
    • Create and maintain design documentation, including personas, journeys, maps, and wireframes.
    • Document design decisions and rationale to ensure transparency and consistency

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of UX design experience
  • An available online portfolio
  • Experience with best practices for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design
  • Experience in life cycle design projects from design strategy through execution
  • Experience with common design software (Figma, Adobe, etc)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
