We are seeking a UX Researcher to serve as the key partner for the Character.AI Product team. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to help identify critical research questions around user and creator needs. The UX Researcher will help further our knowledge of user and creator experiences and focus on identifying research needs and gaps. You will help Character.AI Product teams to develop and implement solutions for scaling our ever growing and dynamic research practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with product and business stakeholders to identify and prioritize research topics in a rapidly-changing environment.

  • Proactively identify research needs and gaps, and implement solutions that scale our UX research practice with velocity and impact.

  • Design and execute end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative methods, including: usability testing, concept testing, in-depth interviews, focus groups, ethnography, surveys, log analysis, fieldwork.

  • Analyze research data and translate findings into actionable recommendations that influence product strategy and design decisions.

  • Communicate research findings in a clear and compelling manner to a variety of audiences, including stakeholders and executives, using reports, presentations, and visualizations.

  • Champion user research best practices, establishing robust processes and methodological toolkits for the team.

  • Help to establish a user-centered design culture, advocating for the user and building a culture that prioritizes human-centric design principles.

  • Mentor and guide other researchers and cross-functional partners in research methods.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years’ of relevant experience in user experience, applied research and/or product research and development or an advanced degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.

  • 7+ years of experience leading user research, preferably in a senior or lead role for a large consumer product area with many stakeholders.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and solving problems without an established process to follow.

  • Experience conducting UX research for a social media or consumer app.

  • Experience with usertesting.com & unmoderated testing.

  • Experience coding with SQL, STATA, SPSS, R, or equivalent.

  • Experience applying statistical analysis methods such as regressions, ANOVA, and T-Tests, and the ability to summarize and explain those results for non-technical audiences.

  • Proficient in relevant design and research tools, including:

    • Figma (or similar design/prototyping tools)

    • User testing platform tools

    • Research repository tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a human behavior related field, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Communication, or Information Science.

  • Experience researching advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, blockchain, or robotics.

  • Experience scaling a consumer app audience in a high growth startup environment.
