About COVU

COVU is building the AI-native infrastructure for insurance and risk management. With $30M+ raised and a growing network of acquired agencies, we’re scaling a platform that merges intelligent automation with human expertise to radically improve how insurance is bought, sold, and managed.

Our vision is to build the operating system for risk—from customer management and market access to embedded products and compliance tools. We’re now looking for a Vice President of Engineering to help us deliver at scale and lead our engineering function into the next stage of growth.

The Role

As VP of Engineering, you will partner closely with the Chief Product Officer / Co-founder to drive execution across our platform roadmap. You’ll lead the day-to-day engineering function—managing team development, sprint delivery, technical standards, and scaling processes to support a multi-vertical product business.

This is a foundational leadership role for someone who knows how to ship fast, scale teams, and create structure without bureaucracy. You will play a critical role in recruiting, developing, and inspiring a team of world-class engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross‑functional squads across Customer Outcome Teams, Agent Experience, and Integrations..
  • Build and mentor engineering managers & tech leads; scale org from 20 to 50+ FTE.
  • Own engineering quality metrics: DORA, defect escape rate, coverage, SLO/SLA attainment.
  • Drive agile execution (OKR alignment, sprint planning, release governance, incident response).
  • Partner with Product & AI to balance new feature velocity with tech‑debt and platform hardening.
  • Implement robust DevSecOps, CI/CD, IaC, and observability practices.

Ideal Candidate

  • 12+ yrs software engineering; 5+ yrs senior leadership scaling SaaS engineering orgs.
  • Track record of shipping AI‑enabled, multi‑tenant cloud products under high uptime.
  • Expertise in AWS and modern DevOps toolchain (K8s/serverless, Terraform, GitOps, observability stacks).
  • People‑first leader; experienced in building inclusive, feedback‑rich cultures.
  • Comfortable partnering with Product & GTM; able to translate business metrics into engineering goals.

Traits We Value

  • Execution-Minded – You drive progress. You remove blockers. You ship.
  • People First – You know that great product comes from great teams.
  • Pragmatic Technical Judgment – You balance technical rigor with startup speed.
  • Detail-Oriented Operator – You manage sprints, systems, and processes with precision.
  • Low Ego Leader – You don’t need the spotlight—you focus on outcomes.

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary
  • Equity package aligned with early leadership tier
  • Health, wellness, and growth benefits
  • Room to grow into CTO-level or business leadership roles

Location

  • California-based preferred (Los Angeles or San Francisco access ideal
  • Remote work available for exceptional candidates
  • Some travel for leadership meetings and team offsite

Why COVU?

You’ll be building real, defensible infrastructure in a massive market—alongside a founder and leadership team that knows how to execute. This is a chance to leave your mark on a critical layer of the insurance and risk industry, and build systems that serve millions.
