Build the engine that powers the largest detection engineering community in the world. Lead the team that makes AI detection engineering universal.

At detections.ai, we're not just building another security platform - we're architecting the future of how organizations detect and respond to threats. We need an engineering leader who doesn't just ship features but shapes the technical foundation that will protect thousands of organizations worldwide.

Your Mission:

  • Architect the platform that democratizes detection. Lead the engineering vision that makes enterprise-grade threat detection accessible to every organization, regardless of size or sophistication
  • Transform community intelligence into scalable systems - build the infrastructure that turns collective knowledge into real-time protection for all
  • Bridge the gap between innovation and reliability. Deliver cutting-edge AI capabilities while maintaining the rock - solid stability that security teams demand
  • Champion engineering excellence as a force multiplier and create the culture and processes that turn great engineers into an unstoppable team
  • Pioneer the intersection of AI and security to push the boundaries of what's possible when machine learning meets threat detection at massive scale
  • Build the technical foundation that becomes the backbone of modern cyber defense

You're Our Person If:

  • You see systems, not just code - you understand that great engineering is about architecting solutions that scale technically, organizationally, and culturally
  • You're a builder of builders - you don't just write great code; you create environments where engineers do their best work and grow into leaders themselves
  • You speak fluent business and technical - you can seamlessly translate between board - level strategy and implementation details, making complex decisions simple
  • You are community driven - you believe that open collaboration and shared knowledge make everyone's products better, including ours
  • You have battle tested experience - you've scaled systems from thousands to billions of events, and teams from startup to scale - up
  • You're obsessed with impact - you measure success not in lines of code, but in threats stopped and customers protected
Preferred Experience:
  • Background in security infrastructure, malware analysis, threat detection, or high - scale telemetry systems - you've lived in the world where every millisecond matters and false positives are as dangerous as false negatives
  • Experience with large - scale data pipelines, ETL, or continuous scanning infrastructure - you've built systems that process billions of events without breaking a sweat
  • Familiarity with detection logic (YARA, Sigma), binary analysis, or reverse engineering workflows - you understand the language of threat detection and can bridge the gap between security researchers and platform engineers
  • Track record of building customer - facing APIs or developer platforms with high adoption and integration complexity - you know what it takes to create APIs that developers love and enterprises trust
  • Comfortable balancing short - term wins with long - term architectural decisions - and communicating those tradeoffs clearly to everyone from engineers to board members

The Technical Challenge:

  • Scale our detection community from thousands to millions of detections without breaking a sweat
  • Optimize the AI experience that delivers detection creation and organization for the largest organizations in the world
  • Build the APIs that make our platform the foundation for the entire detection ecosystem
  • Create the experience that makes building and using detections.ai a joy
  • Architect for resilience in a world where downtime isn't just inconvenient - it's dangerous

What We Offer:

  • Meaningful ownership. Substantial equity that reflects your critical role in our success
  • True flexibility. “Remote first” culture that judges output, not hours
  • Resources to succeed and hire the team you need, invest in the tools that matter
  • Direct impact. Your decisions shape not just our product, but how an entire industry defends itself
  • Learning at scale. Tackle problems few companies face with a team that pushes you to grow

You'll Know You're Succeeding When:

  • Engineers across the industry want to work for you
  • Customers trust our platform with their most critical detection engineering needs
  • Your team ships faster while breaking things less
  • Technical debt is a conscious choice, not an accident
  • Our architecture becomes the reference design others aspire to

This isn't just another VP Engineering role - it's your chance to lead the technical revolution that makes effective threat detection a universal capability, not an enterprise luxury. Join us in building the engineering organization that will define how the world detects and defeats tomorrow's threats.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
