Job Summary: The Vice President of Product Line Management is responsible for the strategic direction, development, and lifecycle management of the Networking Components product line which includes Lumentum’s market leading coherent components, narrow line-width tunable lasers, high power pump lasers and wavelength selective switching portfolio. This role involves defining product vision, leading cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of product strategies, driving product development from ideation to launch while closely monitoring market trends and customer needs, and achieving business objectives; essentially acting as the owner for the product line's success. The VP of Product Line Management will work closely with senior leadership to align product initiatives with the company's overall vision and goals. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy, Vision and Roadmap: Develop and implement product line strategies, that align with the company's business objectives and market opportunities. Develop, communicate and implement a clear product vision and roadmap for the product line, aligning it with product line strategies.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research to identify trends, customer pain points, and competitive landscape to inform product strategy, positioning and development decisions. 
  • Product Development: Oversee the entire product lifecycle from concept to launch. Lead cross-functional teams (engineering, design, marketing, sales) to execute product development initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards. 
  • P&L Responsibility: Own the profitability of the product line, making strategic decisions related to pricing, feature prioritization, and resource allocation. Ensure products meet revenue and profitability targets.
  • Customer Focus: Maintain a deep understanding of customer needs and preferences. Advocate for customer needs throughout the product development process. Use customer feedback to drive product improvements and innovation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, marketing, sales, and other departments to ensure cohesive product development and go-to-market strategies.
  • Metrics and Analysis: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track product line performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize results. 
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of product managers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Foster collaboration and driving high performance. 
  •  Foster a culture of innovation within the product team, encouraging creative solutions and continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate product vision, strategy, and performance to internal and external stakeholders, including the executive team and investors.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving business objectives and driving product success.
  • Ability to think creatively and drive innovation within the product team.
  • Deep understanding of product management principles and methodologies 
  • Strong focus on understanding and meeting customer needs
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and managing complex product lines 
  • Strong leadership and team building skills to effectively manage cross-functional teams 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify market opportunities and address customer challenges 
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey product vision and strategy to stakeholders 
  • Experience in market research and analysis to stay ahead of industry trends 
  • Business acumen and understanding of financial metrics to make informed decisions about product line profitability 

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  •  Minimum of 10 years of experience in product management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in Optical Communications is highly desirable.
  •  Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills. Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  •  Deep understanding of product development processes, market analysis, and financial management. Familiarity with optical technologies used in telecom transport and transmission applications.
